A Wrinkle in Time

Meg Murry is having a difficult time, and her father, astrophysicist Dr. Jack Murry, has mysteriously disappeared. The absence strains the family and leaves Meg feeling isolated at home, at school, and within herself. Her 10-year-old twin brothers and her strained relationships with peers and teachers amplify her sense of being an outsider.

An eccentric trio — Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which — arrives at the Murry house and reveals they can help rescue Dr. Murry. They explain that they will take Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin O'Keefe through a tesseract to other worlds as preparation for the mission. The encounter hints at a larger plan to save Meg's father.

Through the tesseract, the children travel to other planets and begin to understand the vast reach of the universe and the presence of a tangible evil known as the Black Thing. They ride on the back of the transformed Mrs. Whatsit, a beautiful winged creature that carries them between worlds. The journey frames the mission as a test of courage and unity.

They meet the Happy Medium, a cheerful androgynous fortune-teller who lives on a distant world. She offers guidance and a sense of hope as the children's sense of danger grows. The encounter deepens their resolve to press on toward Camazotz.

Arriving at Camazotz, the trio discovers a planet under the sway of IT and a rigid, conformity-driven society ruled by the Man with Red Eyes. They prepare for the rescue of Dr. Murry and brace for the planet's fearsome controls, aided by Mrs. Who's glasses for a wider perspective. The stage is set for a dangerous confrontation.

They locate Dr. Murry and manage to rescue him, but Charles Wallace is drawn toward IT's influence and becomes entranced by the Man with Red Eyes. The rescue attempt becomes a struggle against IT's hold on Charles, forcing the group to act quickly and cautiously. The team regroups with Dr. Murry's guidance, albeit with new perils.

Despite escaping with Dr. Murry, Charles Wallace remains under IT's control, his mind trapped within IT's influence. Meg and Calvin escape with the doctor, but Charles is left behind, a poignant loss that compounds their fear for his fate. After the ordeal, Meg and Calvin travel to the planet Ixchel, where Aunt Beast offers warmth and care. Meg grapples with guilt and anger over leaving Charles behind, while Aunt Beast's motherly presence steadies her. On Ixchel, Meg and Calvin regroup and weigh their next move.

While on Ixchel, Meg argues with Mrs. Which about returning to Camazotz to rescue Charles. Aunt Beast's care gives her space to think, and she begins to accept that love may be the force worth fighting for. The discussion marks a turning point toward going back.

Determined to save Charles Wallace, Meg travels back to Camazotz alone. She faces the planet's oppressive atmosphere and IT's powers with resolve, trusting that love can overcome fear. The return trip tests her courage and commitment.

In Camazotz's mind, Meg confronts IT using the power of love to reach Charles Wallace's trapped conscience. Her faith in family and the bond between siblings becomes the key to breaking IT's control. Charles begins to free himself as IT's hold weakens.

With Charles Wallace freed, the family is reunited and the immediate threat to Camazotz begins to lift. Dr. Murry, Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace depart Camazotz, emerging stronger as a team bound by love. The journey continues as they head toward home and a new sense of hope.
