In 2006, Vasudevan, Shanthi, and their children Prabhu and Aarthi relocate to a rented house near St. Thomas Mount. The family faces discomfort due to the small size of the house while striving to save money for a bigger home. Vasudevan already saved ₹7.5 lakh and searches for a suitable house in the city outskirts.

Aarthi calculates that the family needs to save ₹25,000 monthly, plus selling Shanthi's jewels, to reach their goal. Vasudevan's boss offers him a raise and overtime, providing extra income. Shanthi begins preparing snacks to sell for additional earnings, all aimed at funding their dream house.

To cope with academic pressures, Prabhu joins a tuition center for ₹1,000 per month. His grades begin to improve, especially after developing a crush on Aishwarya 'Aishu.' However, he becomes anxious during exams, affecting his performance, and Aishu eventually leaves town without informing him.

Despite their savings, the family spends heavily to secure an engineering seat for Prabhu through management quota. Their savings deplete, and in 2007, they are evicted after Vasudevan's outburst. They move to a smaller house in Pallavaram, while Prabhu struggles with college and fails an exam in mechanical engineering.

In 2008, Aarthi performs well in her SSLC exams, but chooses to stay in a government school to save money. Vasudevan's savings for a house increase to ₹15 lakh, but rising property prices now require ₹25 lakh, crushing their hopes. Prabhu considers quitting college but decides to persevere, taking up part-time work at a lathe shop.

Vasudevan suffers a heart attack due to work-related stress but recovers after surgery, depleting the family's savings. Vasudevan then seeks help from his brother Murali to cover expenses for Prabhu's job placement, but Prabhu fails in his final interview. Floods damage their home, forcing a move to Perungalathur.

Following Mehta’s death in 2011, Vasudevan loses his job. Prabhu, despite initial struggles and failed exams, gets an opportunity at a new job through Kalai’s help and becomes a permanent employee. During this time, Prabhu and Aarthi’s financial stability begins to improve.

By 2016, Prabhu and Aarthi arrange a home loan to buy a flat in Guduvancheri. Murali proposes Aarthi’s marriage, leading Vasudevan to prioritize her wedding over their house ownership. Prabhu marries Madhu, a wealthy girl, but later reconsiders after meeting Aishu.

Prabhu encounters Aishu at his sister's wedding; she reveals past hardships that caused her to distance from him. He proposes to her, abandoning his engagement, and they decide to marry. Meanwhile, Aarthi faces domestic violence and returns to her family with her baby.

By 2021, Prabhu is married to Aishu, but his relationship with Vasudevan is strained. Aarthi returns home after abuse, and compromises are made to rebuild family bonds. Prabhu's job dissatisfaction leads him to leave IT and pursue mechanical engineering, inspired by his wife.

Aarthi prepares for banking exams and secures a job as an bank associate. Prabhu studies hard to become a mechanical engineer, taking up work at a lathe shop to fund his education. Their efforts aim to fulfill Vasudevan’s long-standing dream of a family home.

By 2027, Prabhu becomes a successful mechanical engineer and technician. The family moves into their new home, fulfilling Vasudevan’s vision. The film concludes with Vasudevan unboxing the new family nameplate, symbolizing their achievement and new beginning.
