Sarah relocates to Los Angeles to pursue her independence and enrolls in a fashion and costume design course. She starts apartment hunting and secures a one-bedroom apartment in a seemingly friendly neighborhood complex. She begins to bond with residents like Jerry, Brian, and Edie, feeling optimistic about her new life.

After moving into her new apartment, Sarah begins suffering from sleep deprivation and lethargy caused by loud noises at night. Her condition worsens, leading her to forget to submit her portfolio for her enrollment course. She confides in her friend Lisa about her struggles.

One night, Sarah is unable to sleep and is attacked, drugged unconscious by Brian and other residents. She wakes up in a sealed room, feeling disoriented and frightened. The residents reveal that she has been chosen to join their cult, which was founded 30 years earlier.

Sarah learns that all residents are part of a cult based on the principles of Charles D. Ellerby's book, The Power of Community. She undergoes a torturous initiation process and is given the book to study, along with other tasks like marrying Lester and monitoring members via CCTV. She begins to be brainwashed into accepting the cult's beliefs.

After demonstrating her sincerity during a lie detector test, Sarah is branded with the cult's logo. She becomes more involved, gradually accepting her place in the cult as they promise her a sense of belonging and purpose. Her resistance diminishes as she fully joins the group.

The cult conducts an open house seeking new members, and Sarah recognizes Lisa among the visitors. She warns Jerry that Lisa might be difficult to convert, aware of her strong personality. Sarah begins to question her own indoctrination and fears for Lisa's safety.

Lisa is taken for her initiation, and during this process, Sarah reveals her true identity and warns her about the cult. Lisa attempts to resist but ultimately becomes indoctrinated, prompting Sarah to realize she needs to escape the cult altogether.

Sarah and Lisa try to escape together, but Jerry shoots Lisa in the process to prevent her from leaving. The tragic event triggers Sarah to take drastic action to free herself from the cult's control.

Sarah fights back by grabbing Jerry's gun and shooting Jerry and Brian, who attempt to stop her from escaping. She manages to kill them and breaks free from the cult's grip, sensing her chance at freedom.

Sarah escapes into the streets, feeling free momentarily. However, she quickly realizes that all surrounding houses belong to CDE residences— the same organization that founded the cult—indicated by the matching logo. An alarm sounds, signaling that she is now hunted as a fugitive.

Determined to escape, Sarah runs down the street, anxious but hopeful about her future. She is aware that the cult's reach extends beyond the apartment complex, and her fight for survival continues as she seeks safety from her pursuers.
