Limbo

Travis finally pieces together the truth in the barren outback. After learning that Leon, the man long suspected of wrongdoing, is dead, he is led to a remote cave where a charred car sits hidden among the rocks. He recognises it as the vehicle Leon and his brother Joseph were seen driving the night Charlotte Hayes vanished, and realizes the fire was meant to destroy the only physical proof of their involvement.

Seeking answers from the surviving brother, Travis confronts Joseph in his modest bedroom. Inside a cupboard he discovers a stash of women’s undergarments, a silent record of the countless abuses Joseph’s sibling committed. The sight makes it clear that Leon was the predator who kidnapped and killed Charlotte, and that Joseph, at the very least, was complicit in covering it up.

In a moment of raw anger Travis pulls his gun on the old man, but he does not pull the trigger. Joseph is already frail and dying, and Travis understands that killing him would serve no justice—only another act of violence. He lowers the weapon and leaves Joseph to face his own end.

With the official reinvestigation already shut down, Travis drives away from Limbo, the endless desert road stretching out ahead, carrying the knowledge of the hidden crime and the lingering weight of a justice that was never formally served.
