Zatoichi and the Chest of Gold

A wandering blind swordsman who uses his sharpened reflexes and heightened senses to unravel conspiracies and protect the vulnerable. He is quick to help villagers, yet his presence provokes suspicion. His code of honor drives him to resolve the crisis surrounding the chest of gold while remaining apart from formal law and order.

A ruthless samurai leader who wields a whip and commands a small band of raiders. He clashes with Ichi and uses coercion to chase the chest of gold. His pride and aggression escalate the pursuit and complicate the villagers’ fate.

Head of the local constabulary, newly promoted and hungry for power. He collaborates with corrupt officials and schemes to keep the gold, while fearing exposure under Ichi’s scrutiny. He underestimates Ichi and pays dearly for his deception.

Leader of Chuji’s troupe who lives in the hills with a caravan of performers. He protects the villagers and contemplates escape from danger, ultimately guiding Ichi toward a path of trust and rescue. He asks Ichi to escort the young nephew to safety amid mounting perils.

A well-dressed woman involved with Monji’s schemes who tracks Ichi’s movements. Her calm exterior hides a calculating mind, and she uses proximity to influence events and reveal motives. She crosses paths with Ichi and Ochiyo in the journey ahead.

Ochiyo is the sister of the man slain earlier, overheard Ichi’s statements and becomes entangled in the village’s fate. She follows Ichi after the confrontation, pleading for mercy and seeking protection for her family.

The district intendant who pockets the stolen gold and tries to bury evidence. He embodies corruption and uses his position to manipulate the tax system until confronted by Ichi and public outrage.
