You Don't Mess with the Zohan

Zohan fakes his death to escape his responsibilities as an Israeli counter-terrorist commando. He is weary of the ongoing violence in Israel and dreams of leaving that life behind to become a hairstylist in the United States. By staging his death at the hands of his nemesis Phantom, he creates a perfect cover to disappear and start fresh in New York City.

Zohan meets Dalia after being introduced by Oori, an Israeli immigrant who recognizes him in New York. Oori directs Zohan to a struggling salon in Lower Manhattan owned by Dalia, a Palestinian woman. Initially, Dalia only lets him sweep the floors because she cannot afford to pay him, but when a customer needs a haircut, Zohan gets his chance to demonstrate his skills and quickly becomes popular.

Dalia rejects Zohan because of his military past and the ethnic tensions between Israelis and Palestinians. Despite their growing feelings for each other, she cannot ignore the violence that has affected both communities. Her rejection forces Zohan to consider stepping back from his responsibilities to protect her from the dangers associated with his former life as a combat operative.

Phantom (Fatoush Hakbarah) is a Palestinian militant who serves as Zohan's nemesis in the film. After Zohan fakes his death, Phantom becomes a hero in the Arab community for supposedly killing him, which leads him to launch a successful restaurant chain called Phantom Muchentuchen. When Salim informs Phantom that Zohan is alive in New York, Phantom travels there to confront his old adversary.

Phantom becomes an ally after Dalia reveals she is his sister and convinces him to stop fighting. When Zohan mediates between rival factions during the chaos at the Hacky Sack championship, Phantom arrives but is moved by Dalia's commitment to peace. She persuades her brother that continuing the cycle of violence is pointless, leading Phantom to join forces with Zohan to fight their common enemy.

The white supremacists are secretly funded by Grant Walbridge, the corporate landlord who wants to acquire the property where Dalia's salon stands. He orchestrates the attacks to drive out the Middle Eastern community so he can demolish the buildings and build a shopping mall. The arson and violence are part of his scheme to take over the valuable real estate.

The Hacky Sack championship is where Zohan confronts Phantom for the first time in New York. The event, sponsored by Walbridge, brings together the Middle Eastern community. During the competition, chaos erupts when unidentified aggressors (the white supremacists) set the venue on fire, forcing Zohan to step in and mediate between the rival factions caught in the confusion.

After Zohan, Phantom, and Dalia defeat the white supremacists together, the community undergoes a transformation. The shared victory over their common enemy prompts Israelis and Palestinians to set aside their differences. They collaborate to rebuild their neighborhood into a jointly-owned mall, symbolizing unity and cooperation between the two groups.

Zohan does return to combat, but only to protect his new community. He abandons his scissors and uses his combat skills one final time to fight the white supremacists alongside Phantom. After the victory, however, he returns to his true passion, hairstyling, and opens a beauty salon with Dalia, choosing peace over violence.

Zohan dreams of becoming a hairstylist because he is exhausted from years of violence and conflict as a commando. He is passionate about hairstyling, specifically for John Paul Mitchell Systems, seeing it as the opposite of his violent career. His parents disapprove, wanting him to continue his duty as a soldier, but Zohan sees cutting hair as a way to bring joy rather than harm.
