Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines

A young Billy and his girlfriend Cruz make love in their tent when a masked prankster approaches. The prank is revealed to be their friend Gus in disguise, and he and the others reveal they’re heading to Fairlake, West Virginia for the Mountain Man Music Festival. The group includes Gus' girlfriend Lita and their friend Julian, and the plan to attend the festival is set in motion.

Snooty reporter Kaleen Weber is killed by a brutal intruder in the woods during her coverage of the festival. The attack is sudden and brutal, leaving a severed hand behind and casting a pall over the town. The murder signals the hillbillies’ reach beyond the festival grounds.

Maynard Odets hardens his alliance with the Hillicker brothers, asking them to 'give him a hand' and letting them claim the reporter’s severed hand as proof. The dynamic establishes Maynard as a manipulative figure who believes his ‘boys’ will come to his aid. The threat the hillbillies pose becomes more concrete as plans unfold.

En route to the festival, Billy swerves to avoid Maynard standing in the road and crashes into a tree. Billy, Gus, and Julian retreat to confront Maynard, who attacks with a knife. A sheriff’s appearance soon brings the trio under custody, reversing their road trip into a tense town procedure.

Sheriff Angela Carter arrives with a deputy and arrests Maynard along with the three teen boys. While the deputy remains with a tow truck, the Hillicker brothers attack Maynard after Carter leaves, slaughtering him with arrows and mutilation, establishing the hillbillies’ brutality.

Locked in the county jail, Billy confesses to smuggling drugs. Carter releases Gus, Cruz, Lita, and Julian after researching Maynard’s long history of murder, and Maynard proclaims that his 'boys' will rescue him. Carter schedules Maynard’s handover to marshals for the next day, while the tension between captor and captive intensifies.

The Hillicker brothers drag a telephone pole from a tow truck and attack a power station, causing a citywide blackout. With most townspeople at the festival, Carter is understaffed and strained. She reaches out for backup, prompting a cautious, delayed response from outside help.

Cruz visits Billy in the holding cell but is intercepted by Three Finger, who brutally kills her by evisceration and feeding her guts to the horror of her companions. Julian learns Cruz never arrived to join him, deepening the sense of danger in the jail and festival environments.

Gus is dragged away by the Hillicker brothers, who torture him by smashing his legs while singing a grim cover of 'I've Been Working on the Railroad.' They drive past the jail and dump his bloodied body, leaving Lita to grapple with his brutal death. His fate heightens the sense that no one is safe.

Carter arms Billy, Julian, and Mose with shotguns and deputizes them as she calls for help. She later finds Cruz’s body, and Billy and Julian are captured by the hillbillies and trapped in a soccer stadium where Billy is buried up to his neck and Julian is chained to a goalpost. Three Finger approaches as the violent trap tightens around them.

Mose is lured into a barbaric trap and captured by the hillbillies in a barbed wire setup. They seal him inside a large oil drum and burn him alive, leaving Carter and others reeling from the loss and fear for their own safety. The brutality underscores the hillbillies’ merciless nature.

Betrayed by Maynard, Lita is knocked unconscious and her eyes are blinded with a pen knife after Maynard manipulates her into freeing him from custody. Carter returns to tend Lita and to seek more help, but the danger continues to escalate as Maynard’s power grows.

Maynard lures Carter into a deadly trap by rigging a shotgun to her chest and threatening to blow her head off if she moves. He and his hillbillies drench the station with gasoline and prepare to burn it down, turning Carter into a weapon against herself. The plan is chilling in its cold-blooded calculation.

Caught in Maynard’s deadly scheme, Carter’s attempt to survive ends when the explosive trap detonates, ending her life in a blast of fire and blood. Maynard’s party escapes the burning station with Lita, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake. The night ends with the hillbillies driving off with their captive.

As dawn approaches, Maynard and the hillbillies pick up a traumatized Lita and drive off into the night. The infamous villain’s hold over the region is reinforced as the credits hint at a grim future for Lita. The film closes on the ominous note that the nightmare may continue.
