Wish (2023) Timeline Explained – Every Event in Order

Magnifico denies Sabino's wish because he views certain desires as too dangerous to fulfill. He claims that wishes like Sabino's, wishes to spread joy through music, could cause chaos if released freely. In reality, Magnifico hoards wishes to maintain control over the kingdom, keeping people's desires locked away to ensure their dependence on him.

Foreshadowing: Earlier, Magnifico shows Asha his collection of wishes labeled 'At All Costs,' hinting at his hoarding nature.

When Magnifico grants a wish, the person loses all memory of having made that wish. This creates a system of dependency where citizens cannot remember their own desires and must rely entirely on the king to decide when and if their wish will be fulfilled.

Foreshadowing: Asha discovers this dark truth while investigating Magnifico's wish collection.

The 'At All Costs' room is Magnifico's secret vault containing thousands of wishes he has collected from the people of Rosas. This collection represents his method of controlling the population by holding their dreams hostage.

Foreshadowing: Asha notices the room's ominous label during her audience with the king.

Magnifico crushes Sakina's wish in a fit of rage after discovering that Asha and her friends have been working to reveal and fulfill the people's hidden desires. Asha frees the captured wishes by channeling the collective hope and strength of the kingdom's citizens. When she confronts Magnifico in his tower, she empowers the trapped subjects with her words, and their combined hope creates enough magical force to shatter the bonds holding them. This restores all the wishes and frees Star from Magnifico's capture.

Foreshadowing: Star had earlier told Asha that the magic was meant to help uncover hidden desires, not grant wishes directly.

Star possesses the ability to reveal hidden wishes that people have made but never spoken aloud. Unlike Magnifico's wish-granting magic, Star's power allows people to see and remember their own desires. Star can also imbue others with magical abilities, as shown when Valentino gains speech and enhanced abilities after coming into contact with the star's magic.

Foreshadowing: The star descends in response to Asha's genuine emotional wish, establishing its connection to truthful desires.

Queen Amaya turns against Magnifico when she finally witnesses his true, irredeemable nature. Magnifico's corruption stems from his original burden of heartache, which drove him to master magic and create Rosas. However, his desire to help people evolved into a need for control. By absorbing wishes and granting them selectively while erasing memories, he built a system that serves his need for power rather than the people's wellbeing.

Foreshadowing: The opening narration establishes Magnifico's tragic origin before his transformation into a tyrant.
