Wicker Park

Matt returns to Chicago with his fiancée Rebecca and prepares for a business trip to China. While in a restaurant, he thinks he overhears Lisa, the dancer he loved who vanished years earlier. This belief spurs him to cancel the trip and begin an obsessive search for her.

A key card left at the restaurant leads Matt to a hotel where he finds Lisa's silver compact and a newspaper article about a stalker. He leaves a note for Lisa at the bar, borrows Luke's car, and tails the article's subject to an apartment. The apartment is deserted, but Matt leaves another note and keeps the key.

Back at Luke's, Luke is furious because he has missed a date with his new girlfriend Alex. Matt takes the blame for the missed date, and Luke is mollified when Alex calls.

The next day, Matt waits at Wicker Park and then returns to the apartment. A woman named Lisa claims the place is hers and shows him she is wearing identical red-soled shoes and a coat. She says she has been stalked by the man in the newspaper and asks Matt to stay the night; they end up sleeping together. Flashbacks reveal this Lisa is actually Alex, Lisa's neighbor who swapped apartments with Lisa for a few days.

Luke persuades Matt to accompany him to see Alex perform in Twelfth Night. She is unrecognizable in stage makeup and panics when she sees Matt in the audience with Luke. Matt returns to the apartment and feels Lisa's presence despite its emptiness, and Alex sleeps with Luke that night.

In the morning, Matt calls Luke; Alex answers and then drops the phone. She overhears Luke saying that Matt is at the apartment, and she runs out to call him and meet him there.

After Matt leaves the restaurant with the note, the real Lisa calls. She asks Luke to tell Matt to meet her at three, promising he will know where to go.

When Alex arrives at the apartment, Matt hands her Lisa's old red shoes but they are too big. She realizes he suspects something, and Matt says he can exchange them before leaving. Alex then calls Luke and asks him to meet her at the restaurant.

Suspicious, Matt follows 'Lisa'—who is really Alex—and bumps into Luke, trailing him to the restaurant where the deception is fully exposed. The truth about Lisa's disappearance and Alex's role is revealed.

A flashback reveals two years earlier that Lisa was offered a last-minute European tour and had to leave suddenly. Lisa had given Alex a note to deliver to Matt, but Alex deleted Lisa's messages and told him she had caught Matt in bed with another woman.

In the present, Luke tells Matt that Lisa has called to meet him at three before she returns to London. Using Lisa's old note, Matt realizes Lisa is waiting at Wicker Park. He rushes to find her, but arrives too late at the airport.

Matt heads to the airport to chase the ending he hopes for, while Rebecca waits to pick him up. Lisa, listening on a phone, hears Alex apologize for the deception. On the street outside the crowd, Matt sees Lisa and, without a word, moves to kiss her as they are finally reunited.
