Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody

In 1983, 19-year-old Whitney Houston is mentored by her mother, Cissy, a professional singer. Cissy encourages her to perform with a New Jersey church choir, pushing her to excel in her musical journey.

During this time, Whitney develops a close friendship with Robyn Crawford, which eventually turns romantic. The two move in together, raising concern for Cissy who is apprehensive about their relationship.

One evening, while preparing for a performance, Cissy pretends to be ill, allowing Whitney to take the stage alone. Whitney captivates the audience with her rendition of 'The Greatest Love of All,' impressing music producer Clive Davis.
