Way Out West

Windy works as a wisecracking sideshow barker in a small Western town and rigs a roulette wheel. The cowboys catch on to his trick and the crowd grows uneasy as the game continues. They drag him toward the country and a hangman scene seems imminent until a ranch foreman arrives with a plan to make him work off his debt.

A ranch foreman intervenes and suggests that Windy repay what he has taken by working for the ranch. He is taken to Molly Rankin's ranch and put to a variety of menial tasks. Windy handles the chores with humor and stubborn resilience.

Windy performs his duties with humor and a touch of cleverness, turning chores into comic moments. Molly slowly falls for him, while he also begins to care for her. Their growing attraction introduces a new moral pull for Windy on the frontier.

Molly sends Windy to town to bank some money, setting a test of loyalty. He faces the choice of running away or returning to Molly, and he decides to come back. The decision strengthens their bond as he proves he can be trusted.

Molly calls him yellow for not telling the others where to go, and Windy confronts Steve, one of her suitors. They have a rough fight and Windy ends up pummeled. The incident intensifies rivalries at the ranch and tests his standing with Molly.

With the roundup approaching, the cowboys leave for the plains and Windy decides to make his getaway. He plans to slip away from the ranch and head for the open country. The escape attempt raises the stakes for everyone at the ranch.

As Windy tries to depart, Molly is bitten by a rattlesnake. He uses a jackknife to remove much of the poison and rushes her to an Indian medicine man for help. The dangerous moment pushes him to act decisively and protectively.

On the return trip they become lost in a sandstorm and Windy must press on to find the trail. He leaves Molly in the car while he searches, hoping to locate the path back. The storm separates them and forces them to survive in the desert environment.

Buck and the ranch hands believe Windy has kidnapped Molly and pursue him across the desert. He is cornered in a deserted Indian village and ends up fighting Steve again, this time emerging victorious. The confrontation clears Windy of the supposed crime but leaves them all tense.

Windy returns to the ranch and finds Molly in her bedroom. He barricades the door and declares that he will shoot any man who tries to take her away. The moment shows his protective instinct and growing attachment.

Buck and the ranch hands burst in, prompting Windy to draw his guns. Molly explains that they only came to bring him back to her, not to abduct her. The misunderstanding is resolved and peace returns to the ranch.

In the final moment, Windy asks if there is a minister in Arizona, signaling a new commitment. He and Molly share a kiss as the film closes. The ending confirms their romance and a vow of loyalty on the frontier.
