War of the Dead

In the dim underground bunker, prisoners march under armed guard as a final door opens. A prisoner launches a desperate strike at a guard, triggering chaos as German soldiers mow down the line. Amid the mayhem, a captive is grabbed and dragged through the final door, and the captive is strapped to an operating table, a drip inserted and blood pumped into his veins, his eyes fading to a pale, zombified white.

Sometime later, presumably in 1941, Captain Martin Stone leads a highly trained platoon of American and Finnish soldiers toward the bunker, accompanied by a cameraman and his young son. They intend to strike the bunker and stop the horror inside, moving with careful purpose through the forest toward their target. The mission unfolds with a mix of discipline and mounting unease.

Their initial assault is quickly repelled, forcing them back into the trees. They withdraw under fire, trying to regroup as the threat closes in around them. The forest becomes their uneasy battlefield.

A shambling soldier staggers toward them and suddenly rises as one of the undead. More corpses stagger from hiding in the trees and pull the unit apart with feral swiftness. Gunfire and horror collide as the first signs of a zombie outbreak become undeniable.

Forced to flee for their lives, Stone, Niemi, Laakso, Kolya, and the cameraman's son take shelter in a narrow trench. The trench offers a momentary barrier, but the undead press in from every side. The group steels themselves for whatever comes next.

The lone Russian soldier Kolya appears, perceptive and unflappable, offering to guide them to safety. He leads them toward a nearby house where they can hide and regroup away from immediate danger. His knowledge of the area proves crucial as the threat closes in.

Within the chaos, Niemi is bitten by a zombie, and the infection's reach is confirmed. In a brutal turn, Niemi slaughters the young cameraman, prompting Laakso to shoot Niemi to prevent further danger. Kolya displays surprising combat skills that help the survivors.

Niemi seems to reappear and attack again, forcing the group to flee once more. They push deeper into dangerous terrain, trying to keep ahead of the advancing undead. Survival hinges on quick decisions and sheer nerve.

They stop at another cabin and wrestle with whether to confront the supernatural menace directly or abandon the mission. The discovery of Dasha, Kolya's ex-girlfriend, mortally wounded adds a personal stake to their struggle. The group's resolve hardens as they press on.

With grim determination, they press toward the bunker in hopes of locating a radio to call for air support. The path grows more treacherous as the zombies close in around them. The flicker of hope persists in locating a way to call in help.

Inside the bunker, the group splits again, and Kolya convinces them to push toward the radio room. They manage to contact headquarters and request an airstrike to collapse the bunker. The moment culminates as Niemi materializes to fight Stone while the radio room is overwhelmed by the undead.

During the escape, Kolya is dragged into a zombie's grasp and dies. Laakso races to the surface to set signal flares for the incoming fighter-bombers, narrowly escaping the bombs. A Russian battalion arrives to investigate the scene, and Stone and Laakso regroup as their grim mission reaches a hard-won closure.
