Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

In the 28th century, the remnants of the International Space Station have transformed into a vibrant metropolis known as Alpha. This bustling hub is home to countless beings from various planets, coexisting and sharing a rich tapestry of cultures and knowledge.

Valerian experiences a vivid dream of a tranquil planet inhabited by a primitive humanoid race that harvests energy-rich pearls. Suddenly, his dream takes a dark turn when debris rains down from the sky, leading to a cataclysmic event that destroys the planet's surface.

Amid the chaos of his dream, a female humanoid, a princess among her people, is separated from her group. In a desperate act, she sends out a telepathic signal before an explosion engulfs her, indicating a dire need for help.

Startled awake, Valerian learns that his mission is to retrieve a rare 'Mül converter,' known for its ability to replicate anything it consumes. This vital item is the last of its kind and is currently in the hands of a black market dealer.

As Valerian prepares for their mission, he decides to propose to his partner, Laureline. However, she dismisses his proposal, aware of his notorious flirtations and tendency to take serious matters lightly.

Upon arriving at the Big Market, Valerian stumbles upon a meeting between the dealer and a group of mysterious hooded figures. Discovering that the coveted converter is one of the creatures from his dream, he takes action alongside Laureline to secure it.

Upon returning to Alpha, Valerian and Laureline meet with Commander Filitt, who reveals a severe situation: an unidentified toxin has infected the station’s core. They must ensure the safety of Filitt during an inter-station summit to address this crisis.

At the summit, chaos erupts when the humanoids launch an unexpected attack, incapacitating the attendees and abducting Filitt. Valerian, breaking free from his restraints, pursues the kidnappers but loses control of his vehicle in the toxic region.

Despite orders to stay back, Laureline ventures into the contaminated area to find Valerian. However, she is captured by a primitive tribe, setting off a chain of events that leads Valerian to infiltrate their territory with help from a shape-shifting dancer named Bubble.

After a daring rescue, Valerian and Laureline narrowly escape the tribe, but Bubble sustains fatal injuries. With her last breath, Bubble urges Valerian to continue his pursuit, showcasing the high stakes of their mission.

Delving deeper into the contaminated zone, Valerian and Laureline discover it is not radioactive. They find a hidden hall where the captive Filitt and the humanoids explain their tragic history, linking it back to the catastrophic events of their past on planet Mül.

Filitt confesses his complicity in the genocide of the Mül inhabitants, arguing that the devastating strike he ordered was justified to end the conflict. He emphasizes the necessity of a cover-up to protect human interests in Alpha.

As the ship prepares for launch, a confrontation ensues between Filitt's robotic soldiers and Valerian along with government troops. With teamwork and bravery, they manage to defeat the hostile forces, paving the way for the spaceship's escape.

In a thrilling climax, Valerian and Laureline board the spaceship, leaving Filitt in custody. This signifies not only a physical escape but also a moment of realization for the characters about their relationship and purpose.

As Valerian and Laureline sail through space together, they confess their love for each other. They dream of reaching their paradise, symbolizing hope and a new beginning after the tumultuous events they have faced.
