The whole story of Urumbukal Urangarilla (2015) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

A young man named Manoj, played by Vinay Forrt, partners with Sudheer Karamana in the world of theft as he learns from Kelu Ashan, a famed but aging guru of thieves. When Kelu Ashan is now retired, he introduces Manoj to one of his former disciples, Chemban Vinod Jose, to train him in the "art of robbery." Benny trains Manoj well. After Benny is caught, Manoj reconnects with Kelu Ashan, who again teaches him the "science of theft." Manoj is eventually caught and sent to jail where he meets Benny. Inside the jail, he encounters a dangerous thief named Carlos and befriends him. After his release, Carlos plots a house robbery with Manoj's friends. In a twist, it becomes clear that Manoj had actually been seeking Carlos all along, because Carlos had murdered his parents. His motive to become a thief and go to jail is revealed to have been tied to finding Carlos. The robbery plan turns into a trap for Carlos. After revealing all this, Manoj kills Carlos in a brutal and calculated way—pouring honey, smearing sugar solution on his body, and scattering meat ants. In the aftermath, Manoj goes on to start an old age home, and his friends and Benny are shown living happily together.

Urumbukal Urangarilla Plot Explained: Your Questions Answered

The questions people ask most about Urumbukal Urangarilla (2015): what happens in the confusing scenes, why the characters do what they do, the twists, hidden details and what the ending means. Each answer contains spoilers.

Q1

Why does Manoj become a thief in the movie?

Manoj becomes a thief specifically to find Carlos, a dangerous criminal who murdered his parents. He deliberately enters the criminal world, gets arrested, and befriends Carlos in jail as part of a calculated revenge plan. His theft training with Keluvashan and Benny was a cover to gain access to Carlos, making his journey into crime a methodical pursuit of vengeance rather than mere criminal ambition.

Foreshadowing: Early scenes show Manoj specifically seeking out Keluvashan, a legendary retired thief, suggesting his interest in crime was deliberate rather than opportunistic.

Q2

Who killed Manoj's parents in Urumbukal Urangarilla?

Carlos, the dangerous thief Manoj encounters in jail, is revealed to have murdered Manoj's parents. This discovery comes during the preparation for the house robbery, and it is the driving force behind Manoj's entire criminal journey. The revelation explains why Manoj went to such lengths to enter the criminal world and specifically seek out connections to Carlos.

Foreshadowing: Manoj's unusual determination to find a specific criminal figure like Carlos hints at a personal vendetta rather than ordinary criminal motives.

Q3

Why does Manoj set up a trap during the house robbery?

The house robbery is actually a trap Manoj designs to capture and kill Carlos. Rather than simply stealing, Manoj uses the robbery plan as bait to confront Carlos in a controlled situation. When Carlos arrives at the target house, Manoj and his friends turn the heist into an ambush, revealing Carlos's crime against Manoj's family before carrying out his execution.

Foreshadowing: The tension between Manoj and Carlos during preparations, and Manoj's insistence on being present despite the risks, suggests he has a personal agenda beyond the robbery.

Q4

Why does Manoj use honey, sugar solution, and ants to kill Carlos?

Manoj kills Carlos by pouring honey and smearing sugar solution on his body, then scattering meat ants that attack him. This method is deliberately slow and agonizing, reflecting the calculated and personal nature of Manoj's revenge. The brutal method emphasizes how far Manoj has transformed from an innocent person into someone capable of methodical, ruthless vengeance after discovering Carlos murdered his parents.

Foreshadowing: The buildup to this scene shows Manoj's cold, detached demeanor as he prepares the trap, indicating a man who has carefully planned every detail of his revenge.

Q5

Why does Manoj befriend a dangerous thief like Carlos in jail?

Manoj deliberately befriends Carlos in jail because he knew Carlos was responsible for his parents' murder. Getting close to Carlos was part of Manoj's revenge strategy - he needed to locate and confront the man who destroyed his family. The friendship was entirely calculated, allowing Manoj to track Carlos even after their release and set up the eventual trap.

Foreshadowing: Manoj's unusual interest in Carlos's background and activities while in jail hints at more than casual inmate bonding.

Q6

Why does Manoj start an old age home at the end of the movie?

After killing Carlos and completing his revenge, Manoj transitions away from his criminal past by starting an old age home. This final act represents his attempt at redemption and a fresh start after years of living in the criminal underworld. The ending shows that despite the violent path he took for vengeance, Manoj chooses a peaceful, compassionate life, with Benny and his friends joining him in this new chapter.

Foreshadowing: The contrast between the violent climax and Manoj's calm demeanor afterward hints at his desire for closure and a different future.

Q7

How does Keluvashan help Manoj's revenge plan?

Keluvashan, the retired master thief, serves as Manoj's gateway into the criminal world and provides the training needed to execute his plan. By introducing Manoj to Benny for initial training and later teaching him the 'science of theft' himself, Keluvashan gives Manoj the skills and credibility to operate in the underworld where Carlos operates. Without this mentorship, Manoj would have no access to the criminal network necessary to find and confront his parents' killer.

Foreshadowing: Keluvashan's reputation as a legendary thief who trained many criminals makes him the logical person for Manoj to approach for entering this world.

Q8

What happens to Benny after he is caught training Manoj?

Benny is arrested during his training of Manoj and later appears as a fellow inmate when Manoj is also jailed. Inside prison, Benny reunites with Manoj and their relationship shifts from teacher-student to equals. After release, Benny joins Manoj's circle and participates in the plan to trap Carlos. At the end, Benny is shown living happily with Manoj and their friends in the old age home, suggesting he was a loyal ally throughout Manoj's journey.

Foreshadowing: Benny's capture temporarily halts training but doesn't end his involvement - his reappearance in jail ensures he remains part of Manoj's story.

Q9

Was Manoj always a criminal or did he become one for a reason?

Manoj was not originally a criminal - he deliberately chose a life of theft as a means to find Carlos. His motivation was entirely revenge-driven, stemming from his parents' murder. The film reveals that his entire journey into the world of robbery, including seeking out Keluvashan and getting arrested, was a calculated strategy to gain access to the criminal underworld where Carlos operates.

Foreshadowing: The unusual specificity of Manoj's criminal ambitions and his focus on finding a particular criminal figure distinguishes him from typical thieves.
