As a form of discipline for their unruly behavior, four rebellious youths - Chooch, an heir to an organized crime dynasty; Ike, the son of a faith healer; Hash, the child of an Arab sheik; and Oliver, whose father is a governor seeking re-election - find themselves sent to the notoriously harsh Wienberg Military Academy. Under the vigilant supervision of the sadistic Major Vaughn Liceman, these newcomers quickly establish themselves as local troublemakers, with three out of the four diving headfirst into chaos from the very first day. However, Chooch chooses a different path, concentrating on his studies and aiming to stay on the straight-and-narrow.
The arrival of Rodney, an expelled pyromaniac, adds fuel to the fire, shaking up the existing dynamics. When Oliver’s high school sweetheart, Candy, transfers to a nearby girls’ military academy, the recruits hatch a risqué plan to sneak her out for a night of fun. Their adventure goes off without a hitch until they realize that Liceman has been secretly surveilling their every move and has damning photographs of Oliver with Candy.
Falsely accusing Chooch of being the informant, the group turns against him, only to later discover that it was indeed Rodney who betrayed them. In a daring turn of events, the boys devise a plan to blackmail Liceman by orchestrating a scandalous encounter involving him and Candy. Their goal is also to retrieve the original blackmail photos and put an end to Liceman’s intimidation.
The stakes rise during the much-anticipated soccer game at Wienberg Military Academy. As excitement fills the air, Rodney undergoes a change of heart and launches a rocket, which reduces Liceman’s cabin to a smoldering ruin. The academy celebrates victory on the field, while their treacherous plot against Liceman unravels completely. As the credits begin to roll, Liceman engages in a humorous chase after Ike, Oliver, Hash, Chooch, Candy, and Rodney, fervently shouting, > “play it again” as he literally rewinds the scene three times over.

This list features comedies where misfits and outsiders band together to cause chaos and take down an oppressive authority figure, filled with slapstick humor and farcical plots.
The story follows a group of protagonists who are forced into a strict, rule-bound system. Their shared disdain for the authority figure (often a comically villainous one) unites them. Stories that use a rigid institutional setting as a backdrop for broad, satirical comedy and social commentary.Find more hilarious movies like Up the Academy that satirize strict institutions. These comedies use settings like military schools, offices, or camps to create humor from the clash between rigid rules and chaotic characters, offering a satirical and fast-paced viewing experience.
The narrative pattern involves placing characters into an exaggerated version of a real-world institution. The primary conflict is a simple us-vs-them dynamic between free-spirited individuals and the inflexible system. The story progresses through escalating absurdity, where the attempts to enforce order only lead to greater chaos, ultimately revealing the institution's hypocrisy or incompetence in a comedic, often happy, resolution.
These movies share a specific comedic focus: satirizing the rituals and hierarchies of organized institutions. The similarity comes from the setting-driven humor, the tone of light satire, and the use of caricature over realistic drama, creating a cohesive 'vibe' of organized chaos.
