Felix O'Neil is a mischievous prankster who treats school as a distraction from his own schemes. After a string of suspensions, he is expelled from Eastwood High by the dean of students, Gary Truman. A week before report cards are mailed, Felix makes a high-stakes deal with his ex-girlfriend, Vanessa. In exchange for his help in winning a class election against her rival, Stacy, Vanessa promises to print a false straight‑A report card for Felix. Felix and Danny break into Stacy’s computer and uncover that she is a notorious cyberbully who uses the screen name “Roxy.” Armed with this knowledge, Felix is able to infiltrate the school and expose Stacy as a fraud, tipping the scales in Vanessa’s favor in the class election.
That same night, Felix comes home to find his real report card awaiting him in the mail, and Vanessa’s deception quickly becomes clear: she has lied and given him failing grades. Felix manages to keep his parents from finding out, but in retaliation he sabotages the school play in which Vanessa stars. When he evades Truman’s pursuit and later tries to fix his grades by breaking into the school again, he is caught by the dean and arrested by the police.
Felix’s older brother, Ben, who previously escaped from Montana Mountain Academy by shipping himself home, bails him out. Back at home, their mother Julie presses Felix about the report card and tries to pressure him into obtaining the truth from Danny. The news of the failed grades shocks the family, and Julie schedules a conference with Felix’s history teacher, Mr. Harris, who had raised concerns about Felix’s performance. In a bid to protect Felix, the brothers recruit the school custodian to impersonate the history teacher so they can confront Mr. Harris at home. Meanwhile, Julie remains determined to reconnect with Truman in hopes of resolving Felix’s standing. A pizza delivery girl named Katie inspires a new path forward: she convinces Truman to consider re-enrolling Felix. That night, Felix and Danny spy on Truman after hours and learn something troubling—Truman is a gambling addict who has siphoned school funds to support his habit.
With this new leverage, Felix threatens to report Truman for embezzlement unless he is re-enrolled. Truman agrees to the re-enrollment, but Vanessa discovers Felix’s name on the enrollment form and realizes she is being used in a blackmail scheme. She opts to switch sides and helps Truman by stealing back the evidence of his addiction—Danny’s hard drive.
As Felix and Danny race to secure the missing evidence, they confront Truman in the school. Truman taunts Felix about defeating him, but Danny swipes Truman’s laptop, which contains clear evidence of Truman’s misdeeds. Julie arrives on the scene just as Truman tries to spin a story that Felix is a model student with a flawless record and perfect extra-curriculars, effectively validating the forged report card. The confrontation exposes the ruse, and Julie’s suspicion about the report card is finally vindicated.
In the aftermath, Felix is re-enrolled for the next semester at Eastwood High. He earns Katie’s affection and begins to see a path forward, even as his understanding of education remains imperfect.
