Mr. Lorenzo oversees the boarding of students onto a bus for an exciting field trip from Evanston Hill High School. Among the eager students is Ever, a shy girl struggling with low self-esteem, who is accompanied by her best friend Tamra.

As the bus filled with a diverse group of students travels, a sudden horrifying event occurs when blood splatters across the windshield. The bus driver, Wayne, panics and loses control, crashing deep into the forest.

Following the crash, an urgent radio broadcast warns the students of a nearby chemical attack. The atmosphere quickly shifts from excitement to chaos as panic sets among the group of students.

A terrifying figure bursts onto the scene: a mutated metalhead, revealed to be Chip, a revenge-driven burnout. He launches a brutal attack on Mr. Lorenzo, scattering the students in terror as they scramble to flee.

In a desperate bid for safety, Ever, Tamra, and a group of students flee into the surrounding woods and take refuge in an abandoned structure. They soon realize that danger is far from over, as they hear Chip's rampage continue amongst their classmates.

While regrouping, Ever attempts to help Candice, who risks joining their group, but the others decide it's too dangerous to intervene. This decision weighs heavily on them as they realize they can't help everyone.

Wayne suddenly transforms like Chip, turning on the surviving students inside the abandoned building. This shocking development raises the stakes as they must now fend off not just Chip but their own former bus driver.

The situation escalates further when Hunt is captured by what appears to be their transformed classmates. The remaining group members realize they are being hunted down systematically, heightening their fear and sense of urgency.

Amid the chaos, Ever and her friends encounter mannequins dressed as themselves. This haunting discovery reveals the level of danger they are in as they understand that Chip is hunting them down one by one.

Ever and Steven decide to venture back to the bus searching for a phone to call for help. They find the emergency broadcast was merely a recording, deepening their sense of despair just as Steven injects Ever with a syringe.

As Ever loses consciousness, she has a vision revealing Randall’s dark plan involving Steven. Flashbacks disclose their intention to create a 'Scared Straight!' zombie attack scheme to gain power over their bullies and appear heroic.

Back in the present, Randall attempts to steer the group while conspiring with Steven about their hostages, including Danny and Hunt. However, Ever finds the courage to fight back against Chip using a makeshift weapon.

In a climactic moment, Ever uses a deadly weapon created by Chip to deliver the final blow to Randall, who is also transformed. The group bands together to rescue their friends from harm as they fight for their survival.

As dawn breaks, those left standing reflect on the harrowing night. There is newfound camaraderie among former bullies and outcasts, with Ever and Tamra mending their friendship amidst the chaos they survived.

As the surviving students board the bus to leave, they make a shocking discovery: Mr. Lorenzo is still alive after the chaos. Weeks later, a PTA worker visits Randall and Steven in prison to invite them to mastermind a new 'Scared Straight' initiative.
