Tsurune the Movie: The First Shot

Minato Narumiya is introduced as a young boy who visits a kyūdō hall with his mother. He witnesses Masaki Takigawa's grandfather, Akihiro Yasaka, practicing kyūdō and hears the distinctive sound of the bowstring hitting the bow after shooting an arrow, called 'tsurune.' This moment sparks Minato’s fascination with kyūdō, and his mother explains the significance of the sound to him.

As a high school student, Minato joins the Kazemai High School kyūdō club along with his childhood friends Seiya Takehaya, Ryōhei Yamanouchi, Nanao Kisaragi, and Kaito Onogi. They are preparing for the upcoming prefectural tournament after qualifying from the preliminaries, with Minato dealing with target panic from his middle school kyūdō experience.

During practice sessions leading up to the tournament, Seiya Takehaya starts acting strangely, exhibiting signs of emotional distress and eventually falling ill, which causes tension among the team members. This change is linked to a fallout with coach Masaki Takigawa, who is also experiencing internal conflicts.

While visiting a Shinto shrine with the kyūdō club members, Minato learns from Shū Fujiwara about Seiya's recent sickness and emotional state. Minato and Seiya, feeling weak from his illness, meet on a bridge and reaffirm their friendship, with Minato expressing his resolve to continue practicing kyūdō with Seiya.

At school, Minato overhears Masaki Takigawa discussing his desire for 'revenge' against his late grandfather as a reason for accepting his coaching role. This revelation adds emotional depth and complexity to Masaki’s character and his connection to kyūdō.

Minato visits Saionji, his mentor, and learns that Masaki’s grandfather was a close friend of Saionji. During this visit, Minato uncovers the strained relationship between Masaki and his grandfather, gaining insight into Masaki’s personal struggles and motivations.

The Kazemai kyūdō team progresses through the tournament preliminaries, ultimately qualifying for the prefectural finals. Despite Masaki Takigawa’s car accident after visiting Osone, the team remains focused on their goal, demonstrating resilience and team spirit.

During the high-stakes finals against Kirisaki High School, both teams miss some shots, but Minato manages to win the final with a precise shot after Masaki arrives from the hospital. The Kazemai team secures their spot in the national competition following this victory.

Kazemai High School wins the prefectural tournament with Minato’s successful shot, advancing to the national kyūdō competition. The team’s effort and determination are highlighted, setting the stage for the next challenges.

In the post-credits scene, Eisuke Nikaidō of Tsujimine High School, another team that qualifies for the nationals, vows to defeat Kazemai and claim victory in the upcoming competition, hinting at intense rivalries to come.
