The movie takes place over a span of 20 years since the Trolls' initial escape from the Bergens. During these two decades, the Trolls have adapted and established a new community, away from the threat of their frightening captors, while the Bergens remained trapped in their unfulfilling existence.

The Trolls thrive in a vibrant tree which represents their joyful existence, filled with songs and dances. In stark contrast, Bergen Town is known for its gloomy inhabitants who perceive happiness only through consuming Trolls. The surrounding forest, where the Trolls find refuge, is a whimsical place filled with wonder and danger.

The pursuit of happiness is a central theme in 'Trolls.' The story showcases how happiness can arise from community, friendship, and self-acceptance rather than from external consumption.
