Trespass

In a burning Fort Smith apartment, Vince and Don confront a hysterical old man. He hands them an envelope, claims he stole from Jesus Christ, and forces them to take it and leave at gunpoint. He prays for forgiveness before allowing himself to be consumed by flames. The envelope’s contents will spark the night’s dangerous quest.

Outside the blaze, Vince uncovers inside the envelope a newspaper article, the old man’s ID, a map, and a gold cross. The items hint at a long-buried treasure and a past crime. The discovery sets Vince and Don on a path toward East St. Louis.

Vince and Don research the man’s history and learn he stole church gold in 1940 and hid it in East St. Louis. They decide to drive there and retrieve the treasure in a single day, drawn by the prospect of a life-changing haul. The plan is reckless but irresistible.

The duo arrives in East St. Louis and begins to search the building for the stash. They sense they’re not alone as a rival gang lurks nearby, raising the stakes. The hunt for the gold becomes a dangerous contest against time.

Vince is spotted by King James’ gang, who are there to execute an enemy. They witness a murder and inadvertently reveal themselves, prompting a stalemate when Vince and Don grab James’s half-brother Lucky and barricade themselves. The gang tightens the pressure as the search continues.

James calls in reinforcements, and Raymond, the gang’s gun supplier, spots Don and Vince’s car along with rumors of the gold. He manipulates Savon into shooting at Don and Vince, escalating the danger and turning the pursuit into a full-blown trap.

Lucky coughs and demands a heroin fix from his bag. Don frees one arm to reach the syringe, but Lucky stabs Don in the neck and tries to escape. Luther, James’ man, spots the struggle and a sniper shot is fired, killing Lucky by accident.

With Lucky dead, the group locates the stash. They realize the map was drawn to point upward toward the ceiling, not downward at the floor, revealing the room above contains the gold. Vince and Don hurry to reach the treasure, fleeing from James’s men.

Vince orders Bradlee to move Don into another room and lock them in, then climbs the chimney to the roof to signal for help. He hurries to rappel down and escape, but James spots him and pursues. The pursuit funnels into a chaotic stairwell encounter.

Bradlee’s clumsy noise triggers Wickey to break down the door, leading to a brutal confrontation. Don and James end up shooting and killing each other, while Savon and Raymond also die in the crossfire. The collapse of order seals the ruin of both gangs.

The building is engulfed in flames as the last gunfights fade. Vince meets Bradlee outside, who urges him to run, but Raymond’s sabotage has left Vince unable to drive. Bradlee finally scoops up the gold and walks away laughing as the fire consumes the building.
