Jennings and Dr. Priest outline the possibility that Reiner is building bio-chemical weapons there. Berton cuts short his leave to join the mission and reunites with Veronique in spirit.

    Detonation attempt and injury

    Mueller and Berton attempt to rig a clock timer for remote detonation, but an infected soldier attacks, breaking Mueller's leg and destroying the clock. Berton endures the injury and presses on to arm the explosives.

    Final confrontation and collapse

    Berton endures torture to distract Reiner while Mueller detonates the explosives. He kills the guard during the ensuing melee, Reiner trips, a parasite vial pierces his eye, and the tunnel collapses. Berton narrowly escapes, limping away and seeing a vision of Veronique.
