In the small town of Rosedale, high school seniors McKayla Hooper and Sadie Cunningham become captivated by the dark fascinators of murder and fame. They launch a true crime blog, 'Tragedy Girls', which reflects their obsession with notoriety and crime.

Determined to escalate their newfound infamy, the girls decide to use their friend Craig Thompson as bait to attract the attention of the notorious serial killer, Lowell Orson Lehmann. Their ambitious plan, however, falls short when Lehmann dismisses their advances and does not take the bait.

The sudden disappearance of Craig creates a wave of concern and suspicion in the community. McKayla, Sadie, and their friend Jordan Welch concoct a narrative about a serial killer terrorizing the town to deflect attention from their involvement.

In an act of jealousy, McKayla and Sadie plan the death of McKayla's ex-boyfriend, Toby, ensuring it appears as an innocent accident. This shocking act incites anger within the community but serves to elevate their twisted ambitions.
