Five-year-old Cale, while working on a hydro-powered console, accidentally drops it into a creek. His father, Sam, rushes him to the evacuation base in Pierce, Colorado, knowing the impending danger.

Before being separated by the Drej's attack, Sam gifts Cale a gold ring and expresses hope for his future. This moment becomes pivotal, establishing Cale's connection to humanity's survival and the Titan Project.

As Cale boards an evacuation pod with family friend Tek, they witness the catastrophic destruction of Earth. The Drej annihilates the planet and its Moon, marking a significant turning point for humanity's struggle to survive.

Fifteen years later, Cale is now in a salvage yard located in the asteroid belt of Tau 14. The human population has drastically reduced, and Cale faces ridicule and the prospect of extinction amidst alien species.
