Time Bomb

A man leaps off a mines-laden freight train at the Birmingham railyard under the cover of night. A brief scuffle with a railway constable ensues, and the saboteur escapes, leaving behind a bag that the authorities will scrutinize. Constable Charles Baron examines the bag's contents and suspects sabotage is underway.

Investigators inspect the bag's contents and confirm a saboteur is aboard the train. It is assumed the culprit has rigged a bomb to trigger the mine train, threatening the naval dockyard. The police alert the authorities and begin a full pursuit.

With the saboteur still at large, Constable Baron travels to Portsmouth to pursue him and to witness the aftermath, hoping to catch him amid the chaos. He intends to locate the saboteur and prevent further harm.

Authorities divert the freight train toward an abandoned siding and evacuate the surrounding neighbourhood as a precaution against a potential blast. The operation isolates the danger and buys time to inspect the mines.

Peter Lyncort, a former army bomb disposal expert, lives in Birmingham with his wife Janine. That evening Janine leaves him and plans to take the train to London, leaving Peter behind to deal with the looming crisis.

Janine reconsiders her departure and returns home, determined to locate Peter. She begins an active search, unaware that he has already been taken to the diverted freight train by Jim Warrilow.

Jim Warrilow, the local railway security chief, escorts Peter Lyncort to the diverted freight train for the inspection. The move places the bomb disposal expert at the heart of the looming danger.

Lyncort concludes that the bomb is inside one of the mines and begins opening each mine with Warrilow's assistance. The process is meticulous and tense as they search for the concealed device, aiming to disable it before dawn.

Constable Baron has nabbed the saboteur in Portsmouth and is bringing him to the train by helicopter. The man is initially uncooperative, but the confrontation sets up the crucial interrogation at the train.

Handcuffed to the train, the saboteur finally agrees to talk, warning Warrilow that two delays are set to go off within minutes. His information intensifies the scramble to locate the remaining threat.

As the search continues, Janine arrives at the scene, bringing emotional tension to the rescue operation and shifting the dynamic between the investigators and the saboteur's interrogation.

During the final push to locate the second bomb, Lyncort's wife arrives and, with no time left to disarm, he hurls the second device into a field where it explodes harmlessly. The emergency ends as the threat is neutralized.

The crisis concludes peacefully as both bombs are accounted for and neutralized. In the aftermath, Peter and Janine reconcile and renew their relationship, returning to a safer life.
