Corey Webster, an aspiring skateboarder, arrives in Los Angeles to stay with friends. His main goal is to prepare for an upcoming downhill skateboarding competition, hoping to showcase his skills and potentially win.

In Los Angeles, Corey encounters Chrissy, the beautiful blonde who happens to be the younger sister of Hook, the leader of The Daggers. Despite her brother's gang affiliation, Corey is drawn to Chrissy, who is visiting from Indiana.

Corey and his crew, The Ramp Locals, face off with The Daggers after Corey disobeys Hook's warning about contacting Chrissy. This encounter leads to a tense and dangerous chase through the streets as The Daggers pursue Corey on skateboards.

During the chase, Corey narrowly escapes by boarding a bus. As The Daggers search the bus cabin, Corey cleverly slips out through the back door and climbs onto the roof, evading capture.

In retaliation for Corey’s actions, The Daggers locate The Ramp Locals' half-pipe and set it ablaze. This destructive act intensifies the feud between the two skateboarding crews and deepens the rivalry rooted in their differing lifestyles.

After an earlier confrontation, Corey and Hook end up at the Dagger house. In a tense duel in the Bronson Canyon ditch, Corey suffers a broken arm, prompting police intervention which escalates the situation.

Following the duel, a distraught Corey blames Chrissy for not being there to support him. As the police arrive, Chrissy leaves with the Daggers while Corey tries to reconcile, but she drives away without hearing him.

Later, Corey seeks out Chrissy at the Daggers' house, only to learn from Hook's girlfriend that she has already left for the bus station. Unbeknownst to him, Chrissy is still packing upstairs, making her true intentions unclear.

As Hook drives Chrissy to the bus station, they share a heartfelt conversation about his protectiveness. Chrissy's emotional turmoil becomes evident as she questions her choices and prepares to leave Los Angeles.

With a broken arm and feelings of loss, Corey struggles to practice downhill skateboarding. His attempts are hindered by self-doubt, and he finds it challenging to hone his skills, further intensifying his feelings of inadequacy.

During the bus journey, Chrissy has a moment of clarity and decides to leave the bus, choosing to return to Los Angeles. Determined to be with Corey, she hitches a ride back just in time to witness the race.

Corey participates in the downhill race, despite his earlier doubts. In an intense showdown, he manages to speed past Hook, who loses control and flies over the side, cementing Corey's place as a contender.

Corey crosses the finish line at an impressive speed of 63 MPH, earning loud cheers from the crowd. His victory results in a professional contract with Smash Skates and the opportunity to rebuild the half-pipe destroyed by The Daggers.

In the aftermath of the race, Hook acknowledges Corey’s skill and determination. He complements Corey, approving of his relationship with Chrissy and marking a pivotal moment of respect between rival skaters.

The film concludes with a sense of resolution as Corey, Chrissy, and Hook navigate their new dynamics. Corey’s triumph not only boosts his self-esteem but also signifies a fresh start in his relationship with Chrissy.
