The Unseen

A hotel reservation mix-up brings sisters Karen and Jennifer, along with their friend Vicki Thompson, to meet Ernest Keller, the friendly but shady owner of a small-town museum near Solvang. He quickly insinuates himself into their plans and persuades them to accept an invitation for cheap room and board at his farmhouse outside town, where he lives with his wife Virginia. The setup hints at hospitality masking something far more dangerous.

The trio agrees to the invitation and travels to Ernest's large farmhouse outside Solvang, stepping into a house that feels welcoming but uneasy. Ernest plays the gracious host while Virginia remains quiet but watchful, and the women settle in for what seems like a harmless stay. The atmosphere foreshadows the danger hiding in the walls.

Jennifer and Karen leave the farmhouse to attend the Danish cultural festival to which Jennifer is reporting. At the festival, Jennifer reconnects with her estranged boyfriend, Tony, who persuades her to stay behind to talk about their relationship. Meanwhile, Vicki remains at the house, unaware of the danger beginning to close in.

Back at the farmhouse, Vicki settles in for a nap when an unseen figure attacks her. The assailant drags Vicki toward a floor vent, and the grate slams down on her neck, killing her. The household danger becomes brutally real.

Karen returns from the parade to the farmhouse and is attacked by the unseen assailant trying to pull her into a basement vent by her scarf. She dies in the house, her death confirming the killer's presence in the home. The murders begin to reveal Ernest and Virginia's cover.

Virginia, who had been in the barn, later comes inside to find Vicki and Karen dead and is left distraught. The discovery confirms that Jennifer is now in grave danger and that the situation in the house has spiraled beyond control. The stage is set for a confrontation that could expose the family’s secrets.

Ernest returns to the house and reveals the extent of his twisted family history, including killing his own father to protect an incestuous bond with Virginia. He convinces Virginia that Jennifer must be killed to keep their secret safe. The confession hardens the killers' resolve and pushes the situation toward a deadly conclusion.

Jennifer is lured back to the basement by Ernest and locked inside. She wanders through the dark, stumbling upon the bodies of Karen and Vicki. Trapped and terrified, she realizes escaping will depend on outsmarting the menacing plan unfolding downstairs.

Jennifer encounters Junior, Ernest and Virginia's inbred son, who is rough and unsettling. Ernest arrives to finish Jennifer, but Virginia makes a desperate move to stop him. Junior unexpectedly defends his mother, escalating the confrontation into a brutal, chaotic struggle.

In the chaos, Ernest kills Junior by stabbing him in the head, eliminating a dangerous obstacle to his plan. The house fills with the sounds of violence as Jennifer tries to escape and Virginia fights to intervene. The outcome sharpens the final confrontation between Jennifer and Ernest.

Virginia shoots Ernest to death just as he closes in on Jennifer, ending the immediate threat. Jennifer escapes the basement while Tony returns to help her, despite his injured leg. The threat is neutralized, but the trauma lingers over the home and the survivors.

Virginia descends to the basement to hold Junior's corpse, a final image of a family ruined by secrets and violence. The farmhouse remains haunted by the night's events, casting a long shadow over the survivors. The film closes on a somber, unsettling note as Jennifer and Tony face an uncertain future.
