The Unholy

While praying, Father Dennis is confronted by a demon that takes the form of a seductive woman. The creature tears his throat, killing him in the church. This brutal murder sets off a long, unsettled mystery in New Orleans.

Years later, at a New Orleans hotel, Father Michael is summoned to help Claude who is threatening to jump. When Michael offers him a cigarette, Claude pulls him out the window and he falls to the ground. Miraculously, Michael survives the fall unharmed.

Following the incident, Archbishop Mosely assigns Michael to the St. Agnes parish, which had been closed after Dennis's murder. He becomes the new priest there and begins the painful task of reopening the church to rumor and danger. His transfer signals the start of a new battle with the unseen forces.

Michael moves into the rectory and learns from Lieutenant Stern that another priest was murdered there before Dennis. He begins researching Dennis's death and discovers Millie referenced in Dennis's journal. Michael visits Millie to learn what she knows about the church's dark past.

Millie confesses that she gave her soul to Luke, the club's owner who supposedly is the Devil incarnate. Luke visits Michael and claims he does not truly believe in the satanic shows, even as he speaks of supernatural phenomena frightening him. Michael agrees to help them, and they spend an evening at Luke's apartment, where furious poltergeist activity erupts.

Michael brings what he learned to Archbishop Mosely, who confirms that Dennis was approached by Millie and Luke before his death. Father Silva, a blind demonologist, tells Michael he has been chosen to fight the devil, though Michael resists.

Millie is committed to a psychiatric ward after attempting to kill Luke. Michael visits and hears her insistence that Dennis has been talking to her and that Luke attacked her, though her story remains unstable. The danger surrounding them grows as authorities take Millie’s case seriously.

That night, Michael experiences a nightmare of the Demon and receives a call from Dennis who claims he is waiting for him in hell. The haunting intrudes into his sleep and conscience, intensifying the sense of imminent danger. It marks a turning point in Michael's perception of the threat.

Millie arrives at the rectory seeking shelter, despite the danger she poses. Michael agrees to let her stay, hoping to protect both her and the parish from the growing evil. The house becomes a focal point for escalating supernatural pressure.

Millie becomes fascinated by a statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which Teresa explains was salvaged from a foreign church that burned down. Teresa warns of the church's dark history and the severity of the evil present. The statue's presence foreshadows the supernatural events to come.

Millie finds a book about the Unholy and its goal to corrupt pure souls. She suspects Luke planted it, but Luke denies it and remains a suspect to Michael. The book deepens the mystery surrounding the club and the rising threat.

The next day, Luke's corpse is found eviscerated and hanging above the church altar in the Cross of Saint Peter pose. Claude is found bleeding from the eyes and mouth and bursts into flames at the foot of the Immaculate Heart statue, with Luke's corpse igniting as well. The Unholy's menace becomes painfully real.

Mosely and Silva explain that the Unholy will manifest to Michael between Ash Wednesday and Easter, attempting to tempt and kill him. The countdown to a final confrontation begins, heightening the sense of dread.

The Unholy appears as a seductive woman in the church and then reveals its monstrous form. Two mutated creatures crucify Michael, but Millie intervenes and Michael calls upon God to damn the Unholy to hell. He collapses, and when he awakens, he is blind, while the statue of the Immaculate Heart weeps tears of blood.
