The Playbirds

An unidentified serial killer begins targeting female models in London, strangling each victim and marking their forehead with the victim's number. The chilling pattern awakens fear in the fashion scene as police scramble to understand the killer's motive and method. The killings set off a high-profile investigation led by Scotland Yard.

Scotland Yard detectives Jack Holbourne and Harry Morgan are assigned to the case and start connecting the murders. They realize that all the victims recently appeared in the pornographic magazine Playbirds, linking the killings to the industry. The team begins to map suspects and motives.

Four suspects are identified: Playbirds publisher Harry Dougan, photographer Terry Day, street preacher Hern, and anti-pornography campaigner George Ransome MP. Dougan and Day are quickly discounted as possible killers.

Lena Cunningham, Playbirds' next star model, is given round-the-clock protection, but the killer exploits a security lapse to enter her flat and murder her in the living room, marking the fifth victim. The brutal act confirms the killer's bold reach and spirals the investigation.

Holbourne and Morgan decide to draw out the killer by sending in an undercover policewoman posing as a Playbirds model. After covert auditions at the Yard, they recruit Sergeant Lucy Sheridan for the role.

Sheridan takes a job at a massage parlour to set up her introduction to Dougan and to get close to the Playbirds circle. The undercover operation tests her nerves as she embeds herself among the models and staff.

Ransome is spotted looking through the window at a house party hosted by Dougan and the models, confirming police suspicions that he may be involved in the murders. The sighting tightens the focus on him as a suspect.

The police move to arrest Ransome, but he flees and nearly drowns in a pond; he is saved and taken to hospital. The chase underscores the tension between the detectives and the killer and heightens concern about the threat to the undercover operation.

Hern is found spying on the models during a photo shoot, and Holbourne and Morgan decide that he is the chief suspect for the murders. The investigators move to focus their case on his possible involvement and suspect his motives.

Hern is arrested and taken in for further questioning as investigators close in on him. The arrest marks a turning point in narrowing down the killer's identity and testing the strength of every lead.

Sheridan learns by phone that Hern has emerged as a top suspect in the case. The information heightens the tension as the undercover operation proceeds with the new focus.

A man who appears to be Hern breaks into Sheridan's flat and strangles her in the bathtub, claiming to be Hern's twin brother. The attack ends the undercover operation abruptly and solidifies Hern as the killer in the film's twist.
