The Paleface

Government agents bust Jane out of the sheriff's jail and explain their plan. They want her to use her gunfighter skills to uncover the gun-running network and promise a full pardon as a reward. The setup hinges on her cooperation and a carefully staged cover.

In Port Deerfield, Jane meets Jim Hunter and they pose as a married couple to gain access to the frontier operation. The agents arrange for her to join a settler trek heading toward the gun-running area. The plan rests on her ability to blend in and draw out the smugglers.

Jane discovers Hunter dead and becomes the target of assassins. She narrowly escapes, realizing she must continue the mission under threat of attack. The hit squad redoubles its efforts to eliminate her.

To maintain cover, Jane joins the wagon train and marries Peter Potter. Potter agrees to travel with her, though he is a bumbling traveling dentist with a notorious blunder habit. The smugglers also join the trek, to monitor the couple and locate the agent.

The smugglers join the wagon train, planning to ensure the dynamite reaches its destination and to keep Potter under watch. They treat Potter as a likely target for the agents, feeding their nerves about capture or exposure. The convoy proceeds toward Buffalo Flats.

At a log cabin rest stop, Indians attack the wagon train. Potter hides in a barrel and fires at the attackers, while Jane fires from inside the cabin. Potter is credited with the victory, which helps the smugglers justify their pursuit.

In Buffalo Flats, Jane meets Hank Billings and tasks him to locate where the dynamite will be delivered. He begins gathering information that will drive the next moves of the operation. The stakes intensify as time runs out.

Potter clashes with Big Joe, triggering a duel. Jane ponders letting Potter die but decides to help him and use him as a decoy. The plan aims to draw the smugglers away and protect the mission's cover. Tension escalates as the two become an unlikely team.

Billings reports the dynamite is hidden in the undertaker's shop, then dies from an arrow in his back. Jane grasps that danger is closing in and commits to acting quickly. The discovery raises the risk of capture for everyone involved.

Jane and Potter are captured by smugglers and taken to the Indians' camp, where Martin arrives with his weapons shipment. The conspirators' alliance with the tribes grows tense as plans unfold. The situation grows more perilous for the rescuers.

The medicine man orders Potter to be ripped apart by two bent-down trees, but the device instead catapults Potter into the forest and banishes the medicine man. Potter survives and, learning the banishment, disguises himself to continue the mission. Jane and Potter regain their resolve.

Potter, in disguise, attempts to free Jane as the camp closes in. He slips around the camp and sets up an opportunity for escape. The pair's alliance strengthens in the face of danger.

Potter uses a powder trail to ignite the dynamite stash, creating chaos in the camp. Potter and Jane escape in a wagon loaded with dynamite while pursued by Indians and smugglers. Explosions erupt as they break free.

The dynamite explosion destroys the smugglers' weapons stock. Jane and Potter flee the area and begin their honeymoon in earnest. The mission is accomplished, albeit with dramatic peril behind them.

As the film ends, Jane, in Potter's stead, falls victim to one of the movie's running gags. The adventure closes on a light, comic note despite the triumph.
