The Gorgon

In Vandorf, Germany, seven people have been killed over five years, each victim found turned to stone. The killings are chilling and unexplained, fueling fear and rumors of an ancient curse. The village grapples with a mystery that seems beyond ordinary crime.

In a forest millhouse, Sascha tells her artist lover Bruno Heitz that she is carrying his child. Bruno, eager to avoid obligations, rushes off to confront Sascha's father. Sascha pursues him into the night forest, where she encounters a creature and dies after looking into its face.

Bruno's search continues as Sascha's body is found and shown to have turned to stone. Dr. Namaroff conducts the examination at the Vandorf Medical Institution and notes the stone-like state of the corpse. An inquest rules Bruno's death a murder and suicide, and Namaroff withholds Sascha Cass's petrified condition from the record.

With Bruno dead and Sascha turned to stone, the villagers attack Bruno's father, Professor Jules Heitz. Police warn Jules to leave Vandorf, but he refuses and insists on clearing Bruno's name. Jules suspects an inhuman force from ancient myth and believes a ghostly influence haunts Castle Borski.

Jules contacts his friend Professor Meister of Leipzig University, who is also his son Paul's tutor. Paul travels from Leipzig to Vandorf to meet Jules and help uncover the truth. The alliance of science and myth deepens the mystery as the threat looms closer.

That night, Jules is drawn to Castle Borski by a mysterious call. He glimpses Megeara's face and returns to the millhouse, where he, while turning to stone, writes a letter to Paul mentioning Megeara. Paul arrives to learn of Jules's death.

Namaroff's assistant Carla Hoffman visits the millhouse and secretly reads Jules's letter, later recounting what she remembers to Namaroff. Warden Ratoff reports that Martha, a violent inmate, has escaped. Namaroff reveals that Megeara's spirit exists and can occasionally possess a human body.

That night, Paul is drawn outside by a sound and glimpses Megeara's reflection in the garden pool. He wakes five days later in the Vandorf Institution, aged by ten years. He resolves to destroy Megeara and returns to the millhouse.

That night there is a full moon. Paul visits Jules's graveyard and exhumes Jules's body, discovering it is solid stone. Carla silently watches him and later confides that Namaroff is in love with her and that she fears him.

Meister arrives at the millhouse to help Paul. Martha dies soon after recapture by Ratoff. Meister and Paul confront Inspector Kanof, who reveals that Carla arrived in Vandorf as an amnesiac before the first murder. The mystery deepens as Carla's past surfaces.

Meeting at Castle Borski the next morning, Carla tells Paul that she will go away with him to safety, but he refuses and she runs off. Paul chases her and Meister scares off Ratoff. Meister suggests Carla becomes amnesiac during the full moon and that Megeara's spirit enters her body during that period.

Paul cables Leipzig to confirm Carla's arrival, but there is no sign of her. The group grows anxious as the clock ticks toward the next encounter with Megeara and the truth behind the murders remains unresolved.

That night, as the full moon rises, Namaroff awaits with a sword for Carla at Castle Borski. Megeara manifests, and Namaroff is turned to stone by her gaze. Meister beheads Megeara with Namaroff's sword, but Paul has already seen Megeara and begins to turn to stone.

Megeara's severed head morphs into Carla's features, signaling that the Gorgon spirit has found a new host. Paul is dead, and Carla's fate is left ambiguous as the haunting continues to shadow Vandorf. The curse seems to endure, leaving the village with a chilling unfinished tale.
