Marvin Mange works as an evidence clerk at the Elkerton police precinct, dreaming of becoming a police officer like his late father. He struggles with physical fitness due to medical conditions and faces little respect from colleagues and the public. Sergeant Doug Sisk torments him, highlighting Marvin's insecurities and aspirations.

Marvin attempts to impress environmentalist Rianna Holmes but fumbles during their first encounter, revealing his awkwardness and unfulfilled romantic hopes. This moment underscores his desire for her recognition and affection.

While alone at the station, Marvin receives an emergency call and responds personally due to no officers being available. During the pursuit, he drives off a cliff and sustains serious injuries, putting his life at risk.

Marvin is rescued after his accident by the eccentric scientist Dr. Wilder, who saves his life by replacing his damaged body parts with animal organs. This unconventional procedure introduces new physical abilities to Marvin.

Days after the operation, Marvin begins to recover, unaware of the changes. He soon discovers he can perform extraordinary physical feats and possesses animal-like instincts, transforming his life profoundly.

During a visit to the airport with his friend Miles, Marvin uses his new abilities to detect a man attempting to smuggle drugs in his rectum. His instincts help him succeed, earning positive media attention and a police promotion.

Wilder warns Marvin that his animal organ replacements have triggered strong urges, which manifest as sleepwalking and savage nighttime attacks, raising concerns about his control and humanity.

After a brutal attack on a cow, Marvin is suspected of being the culprit due to a police sketch, leading to him being placed on leave. His colleagues and community become suspicious of his true nature.

Marvin barricades himself at home, overwhelmed by his transformation. Rianna arrives to comfort him, and they spend a night together, strengthening their bond amidst his fears of losing control.

Marvin escapes when police raid his home, fleeing into the woods. He encounters Wilder, who hints at another patient with similar modifications and suspects that individual is the real criminal behind recent attacks.

In a tense confrontation, Sisk pursues Marvin, leading to Sisk falling into a chasm but being saved. Rianna then reveals she was the true attacker, driven by her desire to protect a wild turkey vulture she reared.

A hostile mob, threatened by Marvin's perceived menace, arrives to threaten him with violence. Miles falsely confesses to the beast attacks to protect Marvin, and the mob releases him due to racial considerations.

One year later, Marvin and Rianna are married, having started a family and an animal sanctuary. Their new life reflects their successful overcoming of past struggles and acceptance of his transformation.

The film concludes with Wilder being awarded the Nobel Prize for his groundbreaking transplantation procedure, symbolizing the scientific achievement and societal acknowledgment of his work.
