Imogen’s ultimate plan was to help Adilah reunite with her daughter Yasmina and to prevent the terrorist plot from succeeding. To do this, she enlisted Michael Althorp, a former MI6 agent with a complicated past involving her and her family. While she initially hoped to manipulate Michael into smuggling them to Canada on fake passports, she quickly discovered that he had no intention of letting Adilah escape. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Michael is deeply involved with the Russian FSB and the terrorists, revealing himself as a major antagonist. He was orchestrating the attack as part of a broader plan to incite global chaos and warfare, believing that such destruction would usher in a new world order. This revelation is shocking because Michael was once a mentor figure to Imogen, but his actions and motives are driven by sinister beliefs.
Meanwhile, Imogen’s past and her connection to Michael are deeply tied to her traumas. She was groomed by Michael during her youth, which led to a complicated, abusive relationship that left her feeling powerless and haunted. She even believes she might have become pregnant with his child, though it was made to seem as though the baby died naturally. Her complex feelings of guilt and grief over this period heavily influence her desire to help Adilah, recognizing her pain and need for her daughter.
In the final moments, Adilah attempts to escape death by writing the name of the ship carrying the bomb on her foggy windscreen, allowing Imogen to pass this crucial information to the authorities. Patrick, the racist driver, is ordered to kill Adilah to prevent her from revealing details, and he does so with a sniper shot. Her sacrifice ensures that the terrorist attack is thwarted, preventing a catastrophe that could have killed many. Imogen and Malik then manage to contact the authorities, leading to the raid that stops the attack and saves countless lives.
In the aftermath, Imogen discovers that her father, Marcus Seabright, is still alive but hiding. She finds clues linking him to the attack and suspects that he, perhaps motivated by his own agendas, was involved in orchestrating the fake terrorist plot with ties to the FSB and ISIS. The series ends with the suggestion that Imogen might go after her father in future seasons, as her mission of uncovering the truth about her past and her family’s deeper involvement continues. Ultimately, the ending highlights her journey of redemption and the painful revelations about her own past, intertwined with her efforts to stop global chaos and protect innocent lives.
