The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie

Peace has returned to Tromaville, but the quiet moment leaves Melvin Junko [John Altamura] the Toxic Avenger in a deep slump. He can’t hold down ordinary jobs—whether as an auto mechanic or a babysitter—and the burden of his crime-fighting past weighs heavily on him. His blind girlfriend, Claire [Phoebe Legere], may get her sight back thanks to a groundbreaking surgery, but it comes with a price tag of $357,000 that feels almost insurmountable.

To raise the funds, Toxie signs on as a spokesman for Apocalypse Inc., the very chemical company he once defeated. He seals the deal in his own blood, a bold and unsettling symbol of how far he’s willing to go for Claire. After the operation, Claire sees Toxie for the first time and her love for him only grows stronger, a beacon in a landscape that has shifted around them.

As Apocalypse Inc. pushes its product into Tromaville, the town discovers a troubling irony: their hero appears to align with the corporation he once stood against. Toxie’s ego swells, and he becomes a glossy yuppie, eager to bask in the limelight and the perks that come with promotion. Claire tries to call him back to who he was, but the distance between them widens. Then, when Toxie witnesses a group of kids tearing down a poster of him, a memory from the church returns, and he resolves to reclaim Tromaville’s trust.

The turning point comes with a high-stakes rescue. A gang of Apocalypse Inc. goons has taken hostages at the Tromaville Video Store, and Toxie steps in to save the day, dispatching the threat and earning the people’s trust once more. But the conflict escalates in an unexpected, mythic form: the Chairman of Apocalypse Inc. reveals himself as the Devil, a green-skinned demon, and he dares Toxie to a surreal confrontation through a game he calls The Five Levels of Doom.

• Earth: The first level traps them in a gut-wrenching descent as Toxie is pulled into the ground. When he emerges, Mona Malfaire [Lisa Gaye] orders a thug to decapitate him with a mower, but the attempt fails, underscoring the Devil’s unwillingness to be so easily stopped.

• Fire: In the second level, both combatants are set ablaze. The townspeople rush to douse the flames, and Toxie, in a moment of audacious defiance, ends the fire by urinating on the Devil.

• Wind: The third level shifts to a perilous wind that carries away Tromaville’s children. The Devil abducts the kids and sends them toward a cliff, but Toxie arrives just in time to shepherd them to safety.

• Water: The fourth level traps Toxie in a massive puddle, attempting to drown him. He escapes with a Sumo trick he learned during his time in Japan, turning the tide once more.

• The Final Level: The Devil completes the ritual by transforming Toxie back into Little Melvin [Michael J. Kaplan], who is once again a target under Apocalypse Inc.’s grip. Claire’s intervention is blocked, and she is rendered blind again. As Melvin faces the cruelty of being an outcast once more, an angel disguised as a messenger appears and brings a rain that begins the final turn of the saga.

With the rain, Melvin reverts to The Toxic Avenger, and Claire’s sight returns. The epic confrontation culminates in a brutal triumph: Melvin defeats the Devil by tearing away his skin to reveal rats and vermin underneath, decapitates the demon, and hurls his head toward Tokyo, where a reporter showcases a hair growth formula. In the aftermath, Tromaville’s hero and his beloved celebrate their victory with marriage, stepping forward as a united pair—now truly a monster and his wife.

In the end, the blend of courage, romance, and surreal confrontations reaffirms the core of Tromaville’s legend: a flawed but endlessly determined guardian who chooses to stand up for his town, even when the odds—and his own demons—seem insurmountable.
