The Tank

At the end of The Tank, the family manages to escape from the creature that has been tormenting them, with Jules rescuing Reia from the monster’s tank. Jules finds the car keys locked in the cottage, but by the time she returns with Ben, the creatures have surrounded the vehicle, forcing the family to defend themselves. Jules bravely shoots one of the creatures just before they manage to drive away, marking their escape from the immediate danger. Despite Ben being injured during the chaos, he survives the ordeal. The ending suggests that, although they have escaped the horror, the true danger might not be over, as the water tank remains a threat.

The post-credits scene hints that the creatures never left Hobbit’s Bay, implying they could still pose a threat in the future. Many years later, construction workers start demolishing the area, unaware of what lurks beneath. Jules had previously observed that the amphibians in the tank had evolved to live without eyes, indicating they are subterranean, possibly awakened or drawn out by human activity—such as the development project. This suggests that the monsters could still be lurking underground, and whether the family’s secrets and the creature’s origins are fully hidden or not, the danger might resurface when the area is disturbed again. The film ends with a foreboding sense that the nightmare isn’t truly over, leaving open the possibility of a future horror rooted in the darkness beneath Hobbit’s Bay.
