After Japan surrenders at the end of World War II, the People's Liberation Army faces the major challenge of reclaiming territories that bandits have taken over. This sets the stage for a confrontation between the PLA and the bandit forces who have seized control of vital resources.

Captain 203, also known as Shao Jianbo, is tasked with leading a group of 30 men against the bandit threat. Facing critical resource shortages, he must inspire his ragtag team to face overwhelming odds and reclaim their territory.

Captain 203 and his men manage to defeat a gang of bandits who are disguised as PLA soldiers, successfully reclaiming a vital ammunition store. This significant victory helps boost morale and provides much-needed supplies for their mission.

Timely reinforcements arrive aboard a train, bringing Yang Zirong and Bai Ru, a skilled combat medic. Their arrival not only provides much-needed food but also galvanizes the spirits of Captain 203's men as they prepare for future battles.

Captain 203 leads his men to a village that has suffered greatly from bandit raids. There, they encounter a young boy mourning his family, which prompts the soldiers to act quickly to ensure the boy's safety and reassure the villagers of their protective role.

The PLA soldiers brave an encounter with a bandit spy lurking in the village, where they successfully rescue the boy. Initially scared of the soldiers, the boy begins to trust them as they show courage in the face of danger.

The villagers urge Captain 203 and his men to stay and confront Hawk, a malevolent warlord threatening them. Learning about Hawk's search for a valuable map, the soldiers prepare to launch their own strategic offensive to stop him.

Despite Captain 203's initial resistance, Yang Zirong volunteers to infiltrate Hawk's bandit ranks as a spy. He successfully blends in and gathers crucial intelligence that could turn the tide in their favor, showcasing his bravery and resourcefulness.

While embedded with the bandits, Zirong encounters Ma Qinglian, recently abducted from the village. He discreetly communicates to her that her child is safe, despite the danger of his undercover mission becoming compromised.

On Hawk's birthday, Zirong successfully transmits a critical attack strategy to Captain 203. Guided by intelligence from Qinglian's son, they prepare to exploit vulnerabilities in the bandit fortress, forming a solid plan for a final assault.

The dramatic showdown occurs when Hawk kidnaps Qinglian, prompting Zirong to pursue him fiercely. This climax leads to an intense gunfight, culminating in Hawk's demise and an emotional reunion between Qinglian and her son.

In a poignant epilogue, a descendant of Qinglian pays tribute to the courageous acts of Zirong and his comrades. This reflection includes a fantastical depiction of Zirong battling Hawk, highlighting their resolve and sacrifice in the face of adversity.
