Werther, a passionate and rebellious young man, falls hopelessly in love with Lotte, who is already married to a man who can provide her a secure future. Obsessed, he lingers close to her despite the impossibility, while Lotte wavers between the two suitors. When she finally rejects Werther, his despair overwhelms him, leading to his tragic demise.
