Ismaël, a thirteen‑year‑old, is stunned by the suicide of his best friend, an act none of the classmates could have imagined. Throughout the film the surviving youths repeatedly discuss their departed classmate, wondering whether unrequited love for a beautiful neighbour, involvement with drugs, or a clash with a universally disliked teacher might have contributed, as they each struggle to cope with their grief.
