On Christmas Eve a poor orphan trudges through snow to his shabby cabin and breaks down in tears. Santa arrives, singing the title song, and invites him to the workshop. The toys run wild as the boy plays with a few, but a candle falls, starting a fire. The toys can't stop it, so the boy rigs a hose to a bagpipe to put out the fire.
