The final act erupts in a chaotic, almost choreographed showdown inside the couple’s dream house. Ivy and Theo, once inseparable, have spiraled into a bitter divorce battle, each trying to claim the home that represents their shared aspiration. Their insults turn violent: Theo provokes Ivy’s allergies with raspberries, she threatens him with a gun, furniture is tossed, and a chandelier swings dangerously close to crushing Theo—a nod to the tragic climax of the 1989 version.

Amid the shouting and gunfire, the fight reaches a turning point when Ivy fires a shot that sends the chandelier teetering, and Theo retreats to the bathroom, locking himself in. Ivy stands outside, breathless, and asks whether he truly meant the confession he whispered earlier—that he never stopped loving her. The moment cracks open the façade of hatred, revealing that both are still clinging to the love that first brought them together.

While they argue, Theo unknowingly shatters Ivy’s beloved Julia Child stove, spilling gas throughout the house. In a darkly ironic twist, he tells the house’s AI, “Hal,” to start the fire, setting the stage for the home’s destruction. The gas ignites, and the house begins to blaze, suggesting that the physical structure—filled with their memories and ego‑driven fights—will be consumed.

Yet the film chooses optimism over tragedy. With the flames licking the walls, Ivy and Theo finally acknowledge that their feud was driven by pride, not a lack of love. They decide to give each other another chance, embracing the connection they once cherished. Although the house, and perhaps their old selves, are about to be reduced to ash, what remains is the bond between them and the legacy they leave for their children—who will inherit the business and the story of two parents who, despite a spectacular collapse, rediscovered each other in the end.

In short, the ending burns the past away, but it also lights the way for a renewed, if fragile, partnership.
