As the festive season draws near, Amber Moore, an ambitious journalist, embarks on an exciting assignment that whisks her away from the bustling streets of America to the luxurious palace of Aldovia. Her mission is to cover a press conference held by Prince Richard (Ben Lamb), who is about to take the throne after the recent passing of his father. Amber believes this trip will be the breakthrough she desperately needs for her career. Yet, upon her arrival at the palace, her plans quickly unravel when the prince fails to appear as expected.

Refusing to let this setback diminish her ambition, Amber takes the initiative to investigate, hoping to uncover the truth behind Richard’s absence. She cleverly adopts the persona of Martha Anderson, a young American tutor selected by the royal family to educate their daughter, Princess Emily (Honor Kneafsey). Initially, Emily tries to drive her away with playful pranks, but over time, she becomes fond of Amber’s heartfelt teaching style.

As Amber immerses herself in the life of the palace, she encounters various members of the royal family, including the charming yet rumored playboy, Prince Richard. Her experiences reveal that behind Richard’s carefree demeanor lies a kind-hearted and responsible individual, who harbors reservations about stepping into the role of king. Throughout her interactions with Emily, Amber uncovers a treacherous scheme crafted by Richard’s cunning cousin, Simon (Theo Devaney), who is eyeing the throne with malicious intent, much to the dismay of young Emily, who cannot inherit the crown due to her gender.

Adding to the complexities, Amber meets Sofia, Richard’s alluring ex-girlfriend, whose motives raise suspicions in the prince’s mind. As Amber delves deeper into the tangled dynamics of palace life, she finds herself increasingly attracted to Richard, who must grapple with his responsibilities as a future ruler while navigating his own personal desires. As trust builds between Amber and Emily, a profound secret about Amber’s identity is revealed, leading to an agreement where Amber must portray Richard as the compassionate leader he truly is.

Amber’s quest for truth takes them on an equestrian escapade through the woods, where an unexpected event leaves her vulnerable to a wolf. Richard, ever the gallant prince, comes to her rescue and takes her to a secluded hunting cabin. Here, he shares a moving story of family hardship and secrets, including the emotional aftermath of his decision to delay his ascension to the throne, as well as a mysterious poem left by his late father. Just as their connection grows deeper, they are interrupted by the whinnies of horses.

While Richard attends to the horses, Amber seizes the moment to search the king’s desk for answers. Her discovery of a hidden compartment containing documents that challenge Richard’s identity thrusts her into a moral quandary. Wanting to share her findings during a tranquil stroll, Amber is caught off guard when Richard seals her lips with a passionate kiss, awakening a deeper affection within her.

Meanwhile, Sofia and Simon grow suspicious and covertly explore Amber’s quarters, ultimately uncovering her true identity along with details of Richard’s adoption. The dramatic events culminate on Christmas Eve when Sofia unveils Richard’s adoption certificate and Amber’s secret, while Simon boldly asserts his claim for the throne. Richard, heartbroken and angry, storms away from Amber, who is left distressed as she exits the palace.

In a poignant conversation with Queen Helena (Alice Krige), Richard learns the truth about his adoption. Having been told that she couldn’t have children, his mother expresses regret over not revealing this to him sooner and reassures him of her love. What’s more, he discovers that Emily is the couple’s biological child, cherished as a miracle. With newfound clarity and forgiveness towards his mother, Richard resolves to prevent Simon from easily seizing the throne.

As Simon prepares to wed Sofia, he learns a significant condition: the queen must oversee the ceremony for his coronation. Meanwhile, Amber’s sharp instincts lead her to ponder whether Richard could indeed be the rightful ruler, piecing together clues from his father’s poem. Re-admitted to the palace, a fateful discovery hidden in a Christmas ornament accelerates her heartbeat: a secret proclamation designating Richard as the legitimate heir. With this critical evidence in hand, Amber races to the ceremony, timing her arrival just as Simon is about to be crowned; she discreetly slips away, leaving Aldovia behind.

Back in her hometown, Amber’s magazine dismisses her exposé on Richard, categorizing it as ‘soft’. Outraged by their rejection, she resigns and decides to share Richard’s true story through her blog, which rapidly gains traction and captures the attention of Richard himself. As the new year approaches at her father’s diner in New York City, Amber is pleasantly surprised when Richard walks in unexpectedly, professing his love and proposing marriage—a moment she embraces wholeheartedly.
