The Postman

In a post-apocalyptic world, society collapses due to marauders and a series of catastrophic events. The disappearance of order leads to widespread survivalist ideologies taking root, which further divide communities and threaten any semblance of civilization.

Gordon Krantz, a wandering performer, loses everything to marauders, forcing him to seek refuge. He dons a postal uniform, symbolizing a desperate yearning for hope and continuity in a shattered world.

Krantz embarks on a westward trek towards Oregon after taking cover in the postal uniform. His journey through the desolate landscape reveals his determination to connect with surviving communities.

During his journey, Krantz stumbles upon an abandoned postal van filled with undelivered mail. This discovery becomes a pivotal moment that inspires him to take on the role of a postman to deliver hope.

Krantz begins visiting nearby communities to deliver the mail and performs Shakespearean scenes. He exchanges these performances for food and shelter, using art as a bridge to connect with the people.

Krantz reaches the community of Corvallis, Oregon, a place under the control of Cyclops, an artificial intelligence. He finds himself amidst a facade of order maintained by scientists pretending to consult Cyclops for guidance.

Cyclops, designed to preserve knowledge, serves more as a historical relic than a guiding authority. Its caretakers manipulate its image to convince the community to support their efforts in sustaining basic survival.

As Krantz joins forces with Cyclops' caretakers, he learns about Nathan Holn and his violent followers. The Holnists embody a dangerous ideology that threatens the fragile sense of stability in the region.

Krantz forms an alliance with a tribe of ranchers, loggers, and Native Americans from the Umpqua Valley. Led by a seasoned veteran, this group stands as a vital resistance against the encroaching Holnist threat.

Krantz uncovers the horrifying reality of how the Holnists exploit humanitarian workers and communities. This revelation emphasizes the dangers of complacency and the brutal power dynamics in their dystopian society.

Initially viewing the Willamette Valley townsfolk as weak, the Umpqua tribe starts to reconsider their perspectives. Krantz's role as the Postman begins to change attitudes and fosters a sense of potential unity.

Tensions culminate as various factions eye the potential for an alliance. The tribes come together under symbols of resistance, namely the Bear Flag, establishing a communal front against the Holnists.
