The Parent Trap II

Set 25 years after the original film, Sharon Ferris is divorced and raising her daughter Nikki as a single mother in Tampa. They face an impending move to New York City and Nikki's resistance to attending an all-girls school. The girls hatch a plan to keep their parents happily married to prevent the move.

During summer sessions Nikki befriends Mary Grand. Together they scheme to bring their parents together so Nikki won't have to move to New York City. Their plan centers on engineering a romance between Sharon and Bill to keep the families intact.

The girls send Sharon flowers supposedly from Bill, hoping to spark a meeting between the two. They believe this setup will nudge Sharon and Bill toward romance. Instead, it triggers a complicated chain of dates and misunderstandings.

Sharon's twin sister Susan Carey is persuaded to fly from California to Tampa to pose as Sharon and begin dating Bill. The plan hinges on Susan convincingly playing Sharon long enough to start the romance. The groundwork for the ruse is laid with Susan landing in Tampa.

Disguised as Sharon, Susan bumps into Bill at a bar called the Press Box and spends a few innings watching a baseball game with him. Bill recalls moments they had, confusing the real Sharon who dislikes baseball. The initial meeting starts the tangled dating web.

Susan and Bill continue dating as the deception deepens, while Mary and Nikki monitor from the sidelines. The schedule expands to multiple meetings, and the line between truth and ruse grows thinner. The girls keep hoping the plan will still salvage Nikki's future moves.

Florence, the maid for Bill and Mary, senses that something is amiss. Her suspicions foreshadow that the elaborate ruse could unravel at any moment. The household tension rises as inconsistencies multiply.

Sharon discovers the girls' scheme and decides to fight fire with fire. She contacts Brian Carey, Susan's husband and a Trans World Airlines pilot, to help stage a counter-date plan. Together they craft a double-date setup to expose the impersonation.

On a date, Susan (as Sharon) and Bill are clearly out on their own, while Sharon (dressed as a different woman) and Brian pretend to be on a separate date. The ruse escalates as both couples try to maintain appearances and outmaneuver the others. The farce teeters on the edge of being exposed.

Susan becomes distracted watching her own husband, then blurts that the man she is dating is her husband. She storms over, only to laugh when she discovers Sharon in a wig. Sharon explains she has no romantic feelings for Bill and they agree to remain friends.

A going-away party for Sharon and Nikki is held on Mr. Elias's boat. Sharon and Bill slip away to the cabin while Nikki and Mary release the boat's mooring lines. The boat drifts out to sea, leaving the guests watching in disbelief.

Sharon and Bill spend a quiet moment on the boat's deck as they realize they are alone and far from shore, sharing a kiss. The moment transitions to a wedding, signaling the beginning of their union and a new family arrangement.

The wedding scene marks the culmination of the schemes, with Mary and Nikki becoming step-sisters. The plan succeeds: Nikki will not move to New York City, and the blended family remains in Tampa.
