The Muppet Musicians of Bremen

In the Louisiana countryside, Mordecai Sledge and Leroy the Donkey arrive at their residence after stealing items from a railroad yard's boxcar. Mordecai discovers that the stolen items are musical instruments, and blames Leroy for them being worthless. Mordecai then decides to find his shotgun to 'retire' Leroy for his perceived failure.

Startled by the gunshot, Leroy escapes from Mordecai, with a tuba around his neck that Mordecai had thrown in a tree earlier. Leroy then approaches Kermit the Frog, who encourages him to play the tuba, inspiring Leroy to become a traveling musician. This marks the beginning of Leroy's musical journey.

On his farm, Farmer Lardpork tells T.R. the Rooster that he is no longer useful and plans to have him for lunch. T.R. flees in fear, and Leroy finds him hiding in a hayfield. Leroy, sharing his dream of becoming a musician, convinces T.R. to join him and play the banjo.

T.R. tells the chickens he is leaving, but when Farmer Lardpork finds him again, Leroy's loud tuba playing startles the chickens, providing T.R. with a chance to escape. T.R. then joins Leroy on his musical adventure, seeking a new purpose.

While traveling, Leroy encounters Rover Joe, a Hound Dog who shares his story of being thrown out by his owner, Mean Floyd. Rejuvenated by their shared experiences, Rover Joe joins Leroy and T.R., taking up the trombone and becoming part of the musical troupe.

The animal group reaches a graveyard where they find Catgut the Pussycat sleeping on a gravestone, awaiting her death. She refuses to join them initially, but her bluesy singing about her past struggles persuades her to become part of the band, playing the trumpet.

The animals rest overnight in a swamp, observing a distant light from a nearby farmhouse. Leroy then decides to approach the farmhouse, mistaking the lights for a welcoming place, setting the stage for their next adventure.

Leroy and the others mistakenly believe the farmhouse is occupied by a family having dinner, but it is actually occupied by a gang of robbers, including their former owners. Leroy reports the discovery, leading the animals to plan a surprise musical raid.

The animals decide to surprise the robbers by playing music loudly outside the farmhouse. Meanwhile, the robbers are terrified due to exaggerated fears of 'swamp demons' and 'bush bats', fed by the full moon night and their own superstitions.

The animals burst into the farmhouse, scaring the robbers into fleeing. Inside, they find stolen food and jewelry left behind. The animals decide to safeguard the loot and continue playing music to protect the farmhouse until the 'family' returns.

The animals settle into their new life, playing music and protecting the stolen treasure. Kermit concludes the story by remarking on the animals' resilience and their act of defiance, highlighting their unity and musical spirit as their defining trait.
