Beautiful young witch Elaine Parks drives to Arcata, California, a town where witchcraft is accepted. Recently widowed after the death of her husband Jerry, Elaine seeks a fresh start. She moves into an apartment managed by her mentor Barbara and taken care of by the stylish interior decorator Trish Manning. During a visit to a cozy tea room, they unexpectedly receive an attention-seeking visit from Trish’s husband Richard, who quickly becomes infatuated with Elaine.

Keen to find new romance, Elaine conducts a ritual aimed at attracting a partner. She invites local professor Wayne for dinner at his cabin, where she serves him a drink laced with hallucinogens. The night spirals into a chaotic and intimate encounter, leaving Wayne in an emotional and delirious state that ultimately horrifies Elaine.

Tragedy strikes the next morning when Elaine discovers Wayne dead. In a bizarre ritual, she buries him, alongside a bottle of her urine and a used tampon, to conceal her actions from the world. As Trish leaves town for a brief getaway, Elaine seizes the opportunity to seduce Richard. Their affair, however, quickly turns sour when Richard becomes overly attached and emotional.

Meanwhile, Wayne’s disappearance leads Officer Griff Meadows and his partner Steve to discover his lifeless body at the cabin. The investigation uncovers a witch bottle that unnervingly links back to Elaine. In an attempt to connect with her, Griff invites Elaine to join him for a horseback ride, during which they stumble upon a captivating midsummer solstice festival organized by Elaine’s coven. In a whimsical twist, they participate in a mock wedding ceremony and receive matching rings.

As romance blossoms for Elaine, she finds herself deeply in love with Griff, who remains emotionally distant. Tragedy befalls Richard when he takes his own life in the bathtub, discovered later by Trish, who suspects an affair might have driven him to his demise. Trish, grappling with her suspicions, tries on Elaine’s ring, provoking a series of unsettling events. When she discovers a shrine honoring Elaine’s deceased lovers, including Richard, the tension escalates, leading to a violent confrontation.

In the midst of the brewing chaos, Griff and Steve are ordered to step back from the case. However, the mystery deepens as they uncover troubling connections between Elaine and the two dead men. When Elaine confronts Griff at a lively cabaret, the situation becomes dangerous as patrons label her a witch and incite chaos. As they escape to the safety of her apartment, Elaine presents a troubling concoction to Griff, which he rejects, leading her to recall the haunting visions of her past lovers professing their affection.

In a climactic twist, filled with dark poetry, Elaine retrieves an athame and plunges it into Griff multiple times, echoing a haunting image painted on her wall. Clutching the bloodied blade, she envisions a dreamy yet twisted mock wedding where Griff joyously professes his love, whisking her away on a fantastical unicorn ride, blurring the lines between love and madness.
