Brothers Vito (Antonio Folletto) and Antonello (Vincenzo Nemolato) find themselves in a precarious situation as they face the impending loss of the apartment they have called home since childhood. Vito, now a father to a young boy, Napoleon, is desperate to secure full custody of his son by finding a stable full-time job. Yet, his attempts are thwarted during interviews when he reveals that his toddler may occasionally accompany him to work, leading to repeated rejections. Financially strapped, Vito cannot depend on his brother, who is perpetually entangled in trouble and schemes, including petty crimes like phone theft on the subway.

Their living conditions worsen as the decrepit building faces an imminent collapse due to numerous issues like cockroach infestations and leaking pipelines. Despite these concerns, the brothers cling to their familiar abode as their sole source of comfort. Their situation takes a turn when Vito learns of an auction notice regarding their apartment, leaving him to suspect Antonello’s usual mischief. However, Antonello claims ignorance, presenting a stack of unopened mail he had avoided for fear of discovering fines related to his outstanding debts.

The letters reveal that Antonello owes fifty thousand euros to the De Leonardi firm, prompting the court to auction off their home to cover the debts. Desperate to find a solution, Vito discovers that Antonello’s shady side job, where he and a friend, Salvatore, pose as property owners, has led to this predicament. Their experience becomes even more complicated when Vito decides they must confront Mr. De Leonardi. However, upon arriving at his office, they learn that he is unavailable for the time being, and his daughter, Marina ([Laura Adriani]), won’t be around for weeks.

Relentlessly, the brothers decide to follow Marina, intending to find her at a charity event hosted by her father. Although they manage to sneak into the event, they fail to speak with her, and in a twist of fate, Antonello steals her phone. Vito discovers that Marina generously donates to a dog shelter, and Antonello concocts a plan to grab her attention through a façade of a non-profit cause. To establish trust, Antonello suggests Vito approach her as a friend. Reality hits hard when social workers arrive at Vito’s home to assess the environment for his son, emphasizing the need for better job prospects to keep Napoleon from being taken away. Their paths collide dramatically in an elevator, where Vito ends up stuck with Marina, leading to her panic attack due to claustrophobia. Undeterred, he continues to try to impress her, even getting her car towed for being incorrectly parked. The turning point occurs during an unexpected invitation to ‘his’ restaurant, where Vito works as a cleaner.
