High school sweethearts Frank Beardsley, a dedicated and widowed Coast Guard Admiral, and Helen White, a talented and also widowed handbag designer, find themselves unexpectedly reunited in a charming twist of fate. When Frank and his children move back to his hometown of New London, sparks ignite once more between the couple during a chance encounter at a local restaurant while they are both out on separate dates. The magic does not stop there, as their paths converge again during their 30-year class reunion—a moment that rekindles the passionate connection they once shared.

As their new lives unfold, it becomes remarkably clear that Frank’s military background instills in him a strict and regimented way of living, in strong contrast to Helen’s more artistic and relaxed demeanor as a professional designer. The contrasts between their lifestyles noticeably disrupt the harmony within their newly formed family unit. In an effort to have their voices heard, Frank’s oldest son, William, champions a meeting among the siblings.
