The Legend of Lobo

Lobo begins as a curious six-week-old pup who tumbles from the cliff near the den and survives. He grows into a wary adult who hunts cattle as the landscape changes, learning from family and pack dynamics. His courage and resourcefulness help him navigate dangers from predators and humans, and he eventually leads his pack.

Lobo's father and the pack's elder, El Feroz risks danger to keep his family safe. After a cougar threatens the den and cattlemen press closer, he decides to move the den to avoid further conflict. He passes on hard-won wisdom about wilderness survival to Lobo.

The narrator guides the audience through Lobo's world, explaining how humans and hunters threaten the wolves and how Lobo grows up in a frontier landscape.

Lobo's mate joins him in spring as he forms a new pack. Together they defend their territory while adjusting to the cattle-dominated landscape. She becomes a partner in the quest for a secure den and a future litter.

The cattlemen drive herds across the desert and view wolves as a threat. They shoot the cougar near the wolves' den and post rewards for wolf capture or death, escalating the conflict.

A Texas-based hunter is hired to trap Lobo, using a pack of tracking hounds—Black and Tan, Bluetick, Redbone, Treeing Walker—and a killer wolfhound—to bait and trap the wolves.

The badger wins a den dispute with a display of prowess, illustrating the harsh competition of the frontier. Lobo witnesses the badger's cleverness and learns that not all confrontations end in violence.

Lobo befriends a tortoise during his travels, revealing a moment of unlikely friendship and the animal kingdom's calm in the harsh desert.

Lobo chews an armadillo's ear, showing his bold curiosity about the world and the variety of life in the desert.

Lobo is cornered by a rattlesnake, and his parents come to rescue him, a moment that reinforces the danger posed by desert wildlife and the need for parental protection.

Lobo forms an unusual friendship with a young antelope, a rare bond that contrasts with his predator's role and demonstrates the possibility of cross-species friendship in the wild.
