Commander Alan Roberts leads a mission to Little America to investigate a mysterious warm‑water inland lake reported ten years earlier. A storm forces his helicopter, with reporter Maggie Hathaway and a small crew, to crash into a volcanic crater. Stranded, they discover a hidden, prehistoric‑like tropical oasis beneath the ice.
