The Great Yokai War

Following his parents' divorce, Tadashi Ino relocates to an unfamiliar town. This significant change in his life sets the stage for the extraordinary events that follow.

During a local festival, Tadashi is unexpectedly honored with the title of Kirin Rider, a role resembling that of the legendary guardian spirit, the Qilin. This prestigious title thrusts him into a conflict greater than he ever anticipated.

A malignant spirit named Yasunori Katō emerges, fueled by anger over the mistreatment of indigenous tribes in Japan. His desire for vengeance against modern society creates an immediate threat to all, especially Tadashi.

To enact his revenge, Katō allies with a yōkai named Agi and summons Yomotsumono, a fiery entity. This marks the beginning of a series of attacks on humans and yōkai alike, which fuels Katō’s vendetta.

With the help of a sunekosuri, Tadashi sets out to retrieve the Daitenguken sword, essential for a Kirin Rider. His journey takes him to a foreboding mountain, where he confronts his fears.

Despite his fear, Tadashi, aided by the sea spirit Shōjō, navigates the challenges of the mountain. His bravery ultimately earns him the Daitenguken, though not without consequence.

Just as Tadashi triumphs, Agi captures his sunekosuri companion, leaving him unconscious. This event deepens the battle against Katō, compounding Tadashi's urgency to recover his friend.

Upon waking among the yōkai, Tadashi learns that his sword is broken and that they need to rescue Ippondatara to mend it. This leads them on a quest to find the blacksmith, who holds vital knowledge.

As Katō launches his airship fortress towards Tokyo, Tadashi and his companions embark on a daring chase. They arrive just in time to witness Yomotsumono unleashed upon the city, raising the stakes significantly.

During a fierce battle in Tokyo, Tadashi and his allies confront countless kikai and rally support from other yōkai. Their combined efforts shift momentum in the fight against Katō’s forces.

In a heart-wrenching encounter, Tadashi battles the kikai that his sunekosuri has become. His struggle represents not only a physical challenge but an emotional one, demonstrating his deep bond with his friend.

As Katō prepares to complete a dreadful ritual with Yomotsumono, Tadashi and Kawahime find themselves at a critical juncture. They confront Katō’s overwhelming power, forcing them to dig deep into their courage.

During the climactic battle, a seemingly innocuous adzuki bean from Azukiarai triggers a surge of positive emotions. This unexpected intervention plays a crucial role in destroying Yomotsumono and thwarting Katō’s plans.

As the yōkai disperse after the battle, Tadashi and Sata find themselves back in the mundane world. Tadashi fabricates a lighthearted lie, inadvertently showcasing how far he has come from his past adventures.

Years later, Tadashi no longer sees yōkai, including his beloved friend. The film closes with a poignant reveal of the sunekosuri transformed, hinting at the enduring connection between them despite the passage of time.
