Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazard

Arthur's father decides to return to the metropolis shortly after Arthur passes his trials because the holiday at the grandparents' house has ended. This family decision interrupts Arthur's celebration with the Minimoys and forces him to leave the minimoy world behind, setting up the urgency for his response when the distress call arrives. The timing creates conflict between his human family obligations and his commitment to the Minimoys.

Earlier in the film, Arthur's successful trials had just earned him the Minimoys' trust and marked his readiness to act as their king, making his sudden departure particularly disruptive.

The Bogo Matassalai attempt to use a telescope to grant Arthur Minimoy stature so he can return to their world, but the procedure fails catastrophically. Instead of shrinking normally, the vines wrapping around Arthur tighten until he is compressed into a single drop of sap, which falls from the telescope mechanism directly into Max's bar. This accident traps Arthur at Minimoy size and cuts off his ability to return to human form.
